This drop has something special about it: you like it or you do not like it. I like him! Sorry, but the beats in spite of JM several department store bottlings with links. This water of life just does not have any worries with straightened barrels!
    • Nose
Mead with very, very light smoke, a bit salty, elegant wood in the background. Also the malt and some fruitiness (apricots? Peach?) Resonate with.
    • Taste
Honey molasses, mixed with a little salt, pleasantly wide, a dream for every bee.
    • Finish
The alcoholic taste of a honey wax candle wafts aromatic, spicy and wide down the throat.

With the ''Superstition'', ''Jura'' shows a slightly smoky and very malty side, which charges the partly recognizable young content with neat spicy notes. Thoroughly complex and beautifully put together, you won't go wrong with this unless you're looking for fruity single malts. You won't find any fruit here.
    • Nose
Lots of toffee, bacon, fat young malt, dates, roasted chestnuts, baked banana with cinnamon, black cherry jam, white pepper, a light brewery scent hovers in the background
    • Taste
Roasted chestnuts, strongly malty, forest honey, young barley, dark chocolate, turns in the direction of spices after a longer stay, the lightly smoked bacon accompanies in the background, ginger, pepper
    • Finish
Significantly medium length, roasted coffee, some marzipan, malt, overripe banana, dark chocolate, white pepper, cinnamon, light campfire note, slightly earthy lining, ginger

    A delicious, but simple drink.
    • Nose
Sweet, honey and lime, red and green apples, a little yellow raisins and smoke.
    • Taste
Sweet, honey and cinnamon, fresh and baked apple, salted caramel.
    • Finish
      Sweet, medium duration.

    2013:
    Nice and simple whisky.
    • Nose
Honey, floral, citrus, leather, raisins, nut and cream. Calm, simple, non-alcoholic aroma.
    • Taste
Honey, smoke, pepper, wormwood, raisins with stones, toast, salt.
    • Finish
      Pepper, medium, floral.

Lots of wood, very young and sweet, a little smoke, but not the yellow of the egg.

  7. Stanzeflasche scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

A rather pleasant nose, slightly oily peat carried by lemon peel, a little apricot and quince jam, and deep down, at the very bottom, ashes, a medicinal hint. On the palate, it's quite simple, light caramel and peat, nuts, still apricot. It's oily. But the pepper begins to pound the palate. All the same I smell other spices, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom, and a hint of cinnamon when the fire is over. Woody and ashy finish. Not very ripe yellow peach.

Simple and pleasant, light, soft, I really like the general style of the distillery, so, perhaps, the score will come out slightly overpriced, but nevertheless ..
    • Nose
Raw, cool, light smoky smoked notes, jerky, wet wool, dried caviar, manure, wet hay.
    • Taste
Soft, delicate, moderately sweet, light oak, a little pepper, dried caviar.
    • Finish
Light, airy, pepper, weak ginger tones, light oak bitterness, herbal notes.

Big blast of peat initially, honey, hint of orange, .cream, faint taste of iron bru mixed in with ginger

This is the recommendation for me, if a beginner wants to cuddle comfortably in smoke, in the sweet chocolate-smoke combo is completely peaceful and the whisky is good and easy to smell and taste. Works in the whisky bar regularly and is well received, for 40 € in the liter bottle to outrageously cheap.
    • Nose
intense and open, milk chocolate, medium strong (would say, about Bowmore level), sweetish, round smoke, with a slight sweet earthy note
    • Taste
soft and round and creamy and holds what the nose promises, smoky chocolate, nut nougat, a small touch of resin / tree needles, does not bite, does not scratch, not bitter
    • Finish
medium, and here comes next to the milk chocolate but still some bite - pepper and and the smoke sounds a bit bitter

    Colour: E150a

    Body: Medium

Nose: Lots of spice, tonnes of cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, touch of smoke. Some sweetness with a cakey vanilla.

Taste: Fruity with lots of spicy cinnamon and some fruit and vanilla.

Finish: Short/Medium length. Spice with some smoke and salt.

Lightly peated, NAS. This is better, I like the cinnamon note on this.

    • Nose
Pleasant wood-burning smoke. Becomes slightly phenolic over time. Honey, some garden herbs. A trace of cinnamon. Vanilla and a fresh, cooling note (menthol?). Laugenbrezel with nice salt on it. Everything was pretty well tuned.
    • Taste
Oily, light oak. Amazingly little smoke. Some coffee. A sweet that I can not match comes up. Nutty. The cinnamon note is now minimal there.
    • Finish
Medium long, slightly dry and slightly bitter. But where is the smoke?

Half malt and half smoked of smoky and not smoky Jura Malt. In the overall impression rather pale; fits very well into the supermarket and travel value drawer - 16.01.2016
    • Nose
Restrained smoke, alcoholic touch, some caramel
    • Taste
The smoke is holding back, is only slightly noticeable, honey sweetness, is creamy, some spice followed by an alcoholic pungency, light burning, salty, oak

I found the smoked fish-type smokiness a refreshing change from Islay distilleries at first but after a few glasses the novelty wore out and I got tired of it.

You can find the same newspaper aroma as in other current Juras here too, except it smells like it was used to wrap a fish.

    Tasting Notes by Jura;

Lightly peated with hints of smoke.

For all of you taste gurus out there, you may pick out hints of honey and pine, as the balance of peated and unpeated spirits is matured to perfection in ex-Bourbon casks. The finest young and aged (up to 21 years) whiskies go into this mysterious bottle, so there's a different flavour to explore with every drop.

Best enjoyed on a cold night with Arbroath smokies, a chocolate and orange tart, smoked Caithness salmon or salted chocolate.• Gold medal at the Beverage Testing Institute 2012
    • Gold Winner in the SFWSC 2012 awards
    • Whisky Shop Whisky of the Year 2012

A decent whisky but very good for the price. I enjoyed it as my first introduction to Jura!
    • Nose
Light peat, burnt toffee. A touch of water and the toffee becomes more prominent but weakens the peat smoke note.
    • Taste
Reasonable smoky hit, some sea salt. Dry and peppery.
    • Finish
Quite long on pepper and smoke but increasingly drying

  28. Magnus Hillman scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

A complex and solid dram. Had it side-by-side with Old Pulteney 12 YO and Toshan Three wood and this one was the clear winner in that contest.

    (Rating interval 84-87)
    • Nose
Beefy on the nose, leather, malt, tobacco, smoke, orange, brine, some smoked meat is in there.
    • Taste
Great mouth fill, full-bodied, chewable, consistent delivery, sweet licorice and spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, table salt and black pepper. The tobacco is still there but much more subtle. caramelized orange (and maybe some red fruit?).
    • Finish
The finish is medium in length with spices, like chili pepper and cinnamon, bitter orange and fresh ginger.

Nose: Cloves, Vegetation, Vanilla, marine air, and pine or juniper

Taste: Very similar to nose. Sea Salt, burnt wood, smoke, vanilla

    Body: Quite viscous

    Finish: Smooth, Longer than expected

On the nose, the topmost notes I got were cloves, vegetation, vanilla, marine air, either pine or juniper, and something like a cross between peat smoke and earthiness. On the palate, I tasted many of the same notes as the nose. In particular, sea salt, burnt wood, smoke, and vanilla, the vanilla particularly at the front of the palate. The body was rich and satisfying. I was very surprised by the long legs.

The finish was was long and smooth.

Not an attention grabber, but over all a very nice dram.

Very good whisky that absolutely needs two things:

    1. Quite some time to open up - I`d say at least 30 min

    2. A wee drop of water

So take your time with this whisky. I suspect that Jim Murry`s undue low rating of only 73.5 comes from the fact, that he didn`t spend enough time on it. (Same thing for the Bowmore 25 yo, which needs even more time to show it`s qualities)

  35. drkrylov scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

There is a litany of strange and bewildering customs on Jura but maybe the one regarding the Ankh cross demands the greatest attention. This ancient symbol dates back to Egyptian times and is long rumoured to bring good fortune. Just so long as you pour the whisky in the correct manner, by holding the bottle with the Ankh cross in the centre of your palm.

Crafted from a selection of the finest aged Jura single malt whiskies, this mysterious spirit has a unique style and character, with tastes of spice, honey, pine and peat with a whisper of smoke.

Gold Winner at the 2009 SFWSC Awards.

    Nice dram for good price.
    • Nose
Very light peat smoke, but also some sherryish sweetness.
    • Taste
Smooth. Waxy. Piney, honeyish. Developing sweet creaminess.
    • Finish
      Lightly smoky.

  38. Jonkers scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

This whisky is well balanced. The peat smoke is very subtle, and adds an extra dimension to this whisky.
    • Nose
Oak and a little peat smoke. Salty. Also raisins, vanilla and chocolate. Anise and liquorice.
    • Taste
Oily and full. Oak, vanilla and malt. Also a bit salty and liquorice. Chocolate and mint.
    • Finish
At the beginning oak and malt. Then a bit spicy but also the sweetness from vanilla and in the end pleasant bitterness.

Nose: slight peat and smoke, a bit sherry, honey and pecan nut

Mouth: peacan nut, sherry, malty, a tad peat and smoke

Finish: pecan nut again!, sherry, malty, tiny bit smokey

Comments: Not really for everybody and you have to like pecans :P Personally I`m not too fond of pecans but this is an alright whisky. Price is really affordable too.

Very distinctive nose, with grist coming through strongly (not particularly to my taste). Nothing particularly complex on the palate, with cereal being prominent. Quite short finish with a trace of bitterness. Some extra sweetness would help temper the rougher edges of this malt. Nothing out of the ordinary, but fairly priced.

Much better than the ten year old and legacy in my book. A more mature, well balanced dram, worth a try.
    • Nose
A nice, well balanced mix of subtle smoke, spice and sweetness. A tingle in the nose, caused by the spice, then sweetness of vanilla, caramel, fruit juice, malt and chocolate or sweet coffee. All carried off by a gentle smokiness.
    • Taste
Everything as mentioned above is still here. Now, the slight spice and subtle smoke are more prominent, preventing this from getting damp and dull.
    • Finish
Medium length. The smoky, spicy tingle remains for a while, after that it fades away into a nice, gentle sweetness. A bit drying perhaps, and the sweetness gets slightly watery, but still nice.

  42. Ikkakumon scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

    Malt very friendly and inexpensive.
    • Nose
Nose slightly smoky and peaty, quite sweet.
    • Taste
Moist, honeyed and salty. A little smoke.
    • Finish
At the beginning of the mouth, it matches the flavors, but alcohol shows all its power.
