    Blind tasting

    can't hide its non-Scottish origins
    • Nose
very fruity, green apple, lemon and lime, a hint of vanilla
    • Taste
Gentle start, soft and sweet, peach, orange, apple, some malt, hardly any oak, some caramel
    • Finish
bubbly, now a little spice, a little flat

    blind tasting:

An interesting brandy in weakly expressive casks. Properly matured and quite tasty, but somehow a bit too arbitrary to really like it. You can enjoy it, but you won't miss anything if you ignore it.
    • Nose
Pear, green apple, crunchy barley, slightly peppery, some winter green, freshly cut grass, cheap machine gum, some vanilla is added, fondant, a minimal citrus freshness in the background
    • Taste
Sugary start with a lot of fondant, banana chips, grassy fresh barley, but quite well matured, producing a greasy, oily mouthfeel, ''Hitschler'' chewing gum with a slight aroma of wintergreen, becoming more malty, the oak is very restrained, just a bit of milk chocolate, pear compote
    • Finish
Short and unobtrusive, the spirit isn't as light as it claims to be, a hint of roasted malt joins the grassy barley, pear peel and hints of quince in the finish, ending slightly minerally dry with a hint of wintergreen

    Colour: Straw

A sweet-tart tickle in the nose, forest honey, caramel, cake base, flower meadow by the sea, clear and fresh on the one hand, then the filling of "Edelen drops in Nut", gooseberry juice, mirabelle plums. At some point it's just malty-sweet fruit nectar on a bed of cereal.

Very gentle attack on the palate, not very complex, but pleasing. Oak wood, caramel-fruity sweetness, a slightly tart counterpoint.

Some chili and ginger in the medium-long finish, gently warming the throat

Many more seasoned whisky bloggers are usually not that fond of Madeira finishes, but I’m quite a newbie one, it’s my blog (and Ainu’s of course) and every palate is different! I found it tasty and with a good nose, sweet and spicy on both dimensions. Easy to sip, and to deliver it at 46% was the right choice.
    • Nose
      83 83
The nose starts with vanilla and is spirity, with a touch of nail varnish remover. It is then complemented with overripe grapes, green apples, before going to bubblegum sweetness and definitely hints of Madeira wine.
    • Taste
      85 85
The arrival is sweet and slightly spicy, with a good oily mouthfeel. Then a hit of pepper and ginger (with an emphasis on ginger) happens. Some bitterness follows, black coffee, hints of perfume (why do I know the taste?), and pomelo. Then after a moment some oak, like when you lick a stave (yes, I have “special” ways of passing time), and eventually chilli pepper and Tabasco sauce.
    • Finish
      83 83
Definitively stave oak, chilli pepper and green apples. Quite long on the oak and chilli.

Sweet start, tangy, young finish. The whisky tastes better the longer you let it breathe

Penderyn Gold Range Madeira Finish, 46% alc. Original bottling. Aging: Bourbon casks, post-maturation in Madeira casks.

Nose: apple slices, mango and peach, also banana milk. Also I find quite a lot of fudge and caramel as well as some zabaglione, pepper at the end and very dry oak, attic in summer.

Palate: Fairly light and silky, unexpectedly smooth body. A blend of vanilla, fudge, maple syrup, zabaglione, pepper and cinnamon. Next I find parsley and some tree sap. Flavor builds up and becomes stronger.

Finish: Long, sweet and spicy. Rice pudding with lots of cinnamon and some pepper.
Conclusion: Overall a good whisky, but much too mild and silky on the palate for me personally. He definitely doesn't tolerate water anymore, I could imagine him better in cask strength. 80/100 points (2022)

  8. Monte Gehro scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior taste experiment 2021 - blind tasting

Nose changeable, otherwise somewhat pleasing, without really convincing.
    • Nose
      79 79
Alcoholic with solvents / turpentine ?, but that will soon evaporate. Still fresh on the nose, lemon cake batter, ripe pears. (Unfortunately) a very nice, dignified ex-bourbon nose with tropical fruits and fine oak spice only for a short time.
    • Taste
      82 82
Sweet, creamy, with a little pepper on the tip of the tongue, the fruits (citrus, pear) on the nose. Nothing metallic. The turpentine note is now temporarily also in the mouth, here just as unpleasant. No seasoning at the beginning, it comes late and also in the finish.
    • Finish
      80 80
Barely medium length, soon fading, a little sweet, oak towards the end.

Young and alcoholic, not that funny

    Blind tasting
    • Nose
      81 81
Fresh, light-fruity, a bit pungent, herbs, grasses, glue, menthol, eucalyptus, vanilla
    • Taste
      76 76
Alcoholic and thin, tastes young, with way too much bitter oak. Metallic, menthol and very little fruit.
    • Finish
      75 75
      Medium long, bitter and alcoholic

  10. FritzeKrautman scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

The artificial notes on the nose and palate ruin the overall impression. At first, because of the smoke in my nose, I was hoping for an increasingly exciting drop. However, this could not be confirmed on the palate.
    • Nose
      83 83
At the beginning solvent and a rather artificial fruit note with chocolate. Then mustard seeds and light smoke. Roasted aromas are slowly emerging. Over time, more vanilla, smoked fish and citrus fruit.
    • Taste
      83 83
Sweetness and again the artificial fruitiness. Light fruits (pear). At first soft, then the alcohol slowly picks up speed and becomes peppery. chocolate
    • Finish
      82 82
Short, less exciting finish with some oak, chocolate and pear.

    Blind tasting Barrel-strong taste experiment:
Thin, fruity, bourbon or refill sherry cask, max 10 years and 46% alcohol content, "other, not Scottish malt whisky".
    • Nose
Fruity, caramel, slightly grassy and floral, yellow fruits, a hint of citrus fruits, minimal muffled smoke.
    • Taste
Sweet, tart, slightly smoky, vanilla, yellow fruits, a hint of grapefruit and lemon, fresh mint, spicy wood, apricots, peaches, a refreshing note in the aftertaste.

43%, not a Scot. Bourbon cask. taste experiment 2021 (blind tasting)
    • Nose
      84 84
Clearly milk chocolate, toffee and soft caramel. Milk coffee. Over time, light fruits and a little pepper, plus floral notes. Overall it looks light and airy.
    • Taste
      83 83
Starts soft and creamy. Cut flowers, green apple, powdered cloves. Less chocolaty than on the nose, nevertheless a few whole milk flakes and caramel on the tongue. Honey, vanilla.
    • Finish
      82 82
Rather short and with only a few residual aromas. Warming.

  13. Rosebank88 scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
      84 84
Full, wonderfully fresh and aromatic. Lemon drops, canned peaches, maybe also banana, some grass, oak and a touch of white pepper. All in all quite lively, even if it is rather simply structured.
    • Taste
      81 81
Soft and rather light in the body but with an oily mouthfeel. A hearty start accompanied by oak, rich fruitiness, delicately tingling pepper spice and a chewy sweetness. Overall still getting a bit youthful and dry.
    • Finish
      80 80
Long, nice oak notes and a hint of hay. Delicate berry notes in the background.

  14. MacFry scored this whisky 70 points Member Senior

Very light, corn yellow. A fragrant start, wine notes and vanilla. Fresh oak and cereals mix with a perfumed tones. Almost like peach syrup or IceTea ... Very sweet on the tongue, light without rough edges. Very short finish, one for easy drinking. However, water spoils it. Sulfur notes and cheesy tones are added, making it even flatter ... Not mine ...
