  1. KyotoLefty scored this whisky 82 points Expert Junior

    Appearance: Straw pale gold.

Nose: Spicy ginger, lemon, apple, vanilla, wood spice, light sea spray.

Palate: Sweet honey, vanilla, caramel, wood spice, orange. Mellow.

    Finish: Honey, vanilla, apple.

With Water: More honey and vanilla.

Overall: Young, sweet, and delicious though simple.

summery (light) fruity on the nose. In the taste, the fruit is missing and a little more young oak pushes forward.
The Barrel Reserve is the little / younger brother of the Arran 10.
I paid around 20 euros, which is a fair price. Anything over about 25 euros would be too expensive; you would get the new Arran 10 for that.
Quite usable for a beginner's malt and a good PLV as a comparison whisky (if around 20 euros!).
    [80 - 76 = 'really not bad'-whisky --- but do I need a (second) bottle?]
    • Nose
      80 80
Light fruits are immediately present on the nose: juicy pear, green apple with a slight acidity (scent of apple blossom), with a little peach and apricot.
A spice can be heard in the background, but it's turned down quite a bit. Instead, there is a fresh oak wood character that is not too dominant.
With time and air, a herbal and floral note is added. The initially existing, partly pungent alcohol note is now gone.
In terms of colors: for me it levels off from an initially light yellow, through a rich yellow, to a greenish-yellow color.
    • Taste
      80 80
very soft start. A spiciness occurs only cautiously, then arrives on the tongue in a fresh oak-wood structure.
The fruits are back, but not as strong as the nose would have suggested.
Second sip: sweeter (powdered sugar) and again a bit fruity. A little malt is added, which leads to a slightly creamy mouthfeel.
    • Finish
      76 76
At the back, young, fresh oak, with a slight bitter note that is just before bitterness.
The tongue is getting drier. Fruits are practically no longer noticeable.
The finish as such is rather short to medium long.

    in the
Glass of nonsense of the nose: light straw yellow. No streaks. On the nose I have fresh oak and (! J white rum.

On the palate: A 40 percent, tangy on the tongue, then oak and a little bourbon. Light, increasingly sweet - more from yellow fruits.

Aftertaste: Apparently matured in active casks. Delicious when on the terrace in summer.
