Fassstark.de taste experiment 2021 (blind tasting)
    • Nose
      84 84
A fruity nose with fresh oranges and apricots, with vanilla and honey. A couple of sliced almonds and hazelnuts. Marzipan bread, milk chocolate, milk coffee. All in all gentle, but with character.
    • Taste
      83 83
Dry and spicy start. Shows the same fruits (oranges, apricots) on the tongue as on the nose. Marzipan, almond butter, hazelnuts, honey, vanilla. Some pepper and paprika seasoning.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium length and mirror image of the nose and palate. Very stringent.

Can't do much, but it's delicious. Maybe something for the summer.

    • Finish
      81 81
Medium long, sweet, very light oak

    Blind tasting Barrel-strong taste experiment:
Delicate and tasty nose, almost too bitter and bitter in taste, bourbon cask, 10-12 years max., 48% alcohol content, standard.
    • Nose
Vanilla, delicately fruity, slightly sweet, a hint of citrus fruits, muted wood tones.
    • Taste
Tart, lemon, cocoa powder, slight heat, spicy wood, minimally bitter aftertaste, stimulates saliva, maritime, slightly salty, floral and grassy.
    • Finish
      -

    Appearance: Straw pale gold.

Nose: Spicy ginger, lemon, apple, vanilla, wood spice, light sea spray.

Palate: Sweet honey, vanilla, caramel, wood spice, orange. Mellow.

    Finish: Honey, vanilla, apple.

With Water: More honey and vanilla.

Overall: Young, sweet, and delicious though simple.

  7. Myke scored this whisky 79 points Expert Senior

summery (light) fruity on the nose. In the taste, the fruit is missing and a little more young oak pushes forward.
The Barrel Reserve is the little / younger brother of the Arran 10.
I paid around 20 euros, which is a fair price. Anything over about 25 euros would be too expensive; you would get the new Arran 10 for that.
Quite usable for a beginner's malt and a good PLV as a comparison whisky (if around 20 euros!).
    [80 - 76 = 'really not bad'-whisky --- but do I need a (second) bottle?]
    • Nose
      80 80
Light fruits are immediately present on the nose: juicy pear, green apple with a slight acidity (scent of apple blossom), with a little peach and apricot.
A spice can be heard in the background, but it's turned down quite a bit. Instead, there is a fresh oak wood character that is not too dominant.
With time and air, a herbal and floral note is added. The initially existing, partly pungent alcohol note is now gone.
In terms of colors: for me it levels off from an initially light yellow, through a rich yellow, to a greenish-yellow color.
    • Taste
      80 80
very soft start. A spiciness occurs only cautiously, then arrives on the tongue in a fresh oak-wood structure.
The fruits are back, but not as strong as the nose would have suggested.
Second sip: sweeter (powdered sugar) and again a bit fruity. A little malt is added, which leads to a slightly creamy mouthfeel.
    • Finish
      76 76
At the back, young, fresh oak, with a slight bitter note that is just before bitterness.
The tongue is getting drier. Fruits are practically no longer noticeable.
The finish as such is rather short to medium long.

    in the
Glass of nonsense of the nose: light straw yellow. No streaks. On the nose I have fresh oak and (! J white rum.

On the palate: A 40 percent, tangy on the tongue, then oak and a little bourbon. Light, increasingly sweet - more from yellow fruits.

Aftertaste: Apparently matured in active casks. Delicious when on the terrace in summer.
