25 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 84.25 points

  1. Goethe scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Great balance between the bourbon and oak casks. For eight years not bad at all, not as sherried as the 12 year old but enjoyable.Concerning price/performance ratio: 8/10
    • Nose
Honey, vanilla, rasins, oranges, prunes, sherry, red fruits, apricots.
    • Taste
Sherry and honey, juicy red fruits, red fruit jam, vanilla, chocolate, oranges, hints of leather and tobacco.
    • Finish
Medium. Dark chocolate, leather, red fruits, oak.

  2. LiquidThoughts scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

A really not bad Glendro, only more than the 15 or even 12er he would not have been worth me.
    • Nose
Raisin, malt and dough are also present, a little honey and chocolate, young oak comes out the back
    • Taste
Honey sweetness, quite strong and young, sherry sweetness with young bourbon oak and vanilla, an interesting combination, although not much draft, but nice fruity-vanilla notes, baked apple, a few preserved pre-ripe fruits such as apricot and vllt. a few young berries, sweet malt
    • Finish
Continue the sweet malt, light oak chips, honey, candy, some orange peel / grapefruit

  3. Mortimore did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

A nice drinking whisky, which is not superimposed by the sherry.
    • Nose
Light malt and vanilla flavors paired with raisin influence
    • Taste
Strong and oily on the go. Light sherry flavor and light vanilla. There are again the raisins and orange, some honey sweetness.
    • Finish
Dry and warming on the finish. Short to medium in length.

  4. wbarchive_104650 did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

much more intense and meaningful than the "The Hielan"
    • Nose
red fruits and raisins, coffee and white chocolate, oak and sherry, the alcohol is well integrated
    • Taste
a light, pleasant tingle, followed by oak and a hint of chocolate
    • Finish
rather short, light oak and again a hint of chocolate and red fruits, it remains a slight bitterness

  5. pEpp0 scored this whisky 84 points Expert Junior

A fresh but very round-looking Glendronach, much further and much more Sherry than the Hielan. Color and barrel influence indicate many first filled casks. A solid malt
    • Nose
Significantly more influence from the sherry barrel than the Bourbon barrel, fresh, young, metallic, orange, distillery vanilla-ginger, light oak on tap, a hint of dark berries, not sprightly or alcoholic, very round
    • Taste
A bit stuffy start, then fresh fruit, more orange, clear sherry, the alcohol very well integrated
    • Finish
Drier than the 8 years suggest, quite a barrel, dark chocolate, peppery spiciness and spiciness

  6. Gearmailteach scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

A typical Glendronach, though younger and more fruity than others through his youth.
    • Nose
Fruity and sweet, lemon, apricot, peach, dark berries. But malty with hints of honey and almond. Fine oak in the background. The alcohol is noticeable. Likewise a light, Glendronach-typical vanilla-ginger note.
    • Taste
Young and juicy. Fresh citrus and berries, then malt, chocolate and honey, oak is added. Again the vanilla-ginger-mix with Butterscotch.
    • Finish
      Mitellang, dark chocolate and caramel.

      Splendid color.
      Wonderful aroma.
      It looks much older.
      Heavy, sherry-heavy aromas.
As if you wanted to chew the wood.
      Fine, balanced, without missing notes.
A nice mix of sweet sherry and old barrel.
    • Taste
      85 85
It gets a bit tart in the mouth.
      The wood takes the lead.
      The fruitiness decreases.
      There are also spicy notes.
    • Finish
      87 87
      Quite a long finish.
The delicate wood is tastefully left behind.

I am amazed at so much taste after so few years.
A great malt that is especially convincing on the nose ...

  12. Dre73 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Beautiful adult whisky for his young age. Sherry influences are unmistakable. Smell and taste nicely balanced, finish remains something behind.
It is a pity that it has been taken out of the core range, its replacement 'The Hielan' can not match this.

  13. Dre73 scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

For an 8-year-old a full flavor and nicely balanced. A good body, the finish line is slightly behind.
    • Nose
Fruity: red fruit. citrus, orange (zest), raisins. Also sweet notes, honey, caramel, vanilla. And some oak.
    • Taste
Lightly peppery, red fruit, orange. Honey, and milk chocolate comes through.
    • Finish
Somewhat on the short side, peppery. Put in sweet, honey and caramel. Then become dry. Chocolate is also present in the distance

  22. Bishlouk scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

A good little whisky, classic. His youth feels especially on the nose. The sherry layer is obviously noticeable, but not invasive.
    • Nose
Dried fruits, tart citrus notes, caramel, and honey. Malted volutes appear later, settle, and stay.
    • Taste
Sweet, with a bitterness lined with citrus peel. Caramelized honey, and some sweet spices.
    • Finish
Average. The bitterness of citrus persists. A slight heat is released.

  23. Dede scored this whisky 75 points Expert Senior

Nose on the caramel cheap mouth to match with bonus notes of artificial candy violet. Whisky completely dispensable.

  24. Amsterdam did not rate this whisky Specialist

This is the bottle from France (Carrefour supermarkets). The first Octarine releaseNo age mentioned on the label and different barcode

  25. Jean-Brice scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

Of course, the Octarine has qualities, but not the one I like ...;)
    • Nose
Relatively "sherry" but on the wrong side of the expression ...
A little fruity, cardboard, malty, fermented.
    • Taste
Continuous ; a brief sensation of bitterness and astringency.
    • Finish
      Average on sherry
