Despite its only 6 years old, the Coal Ila knows how to please. With a few years more in the barrel, it might have been rounder and more harmonious in some places, but as a young wild it comes into its own.
    • Nose
The color is a rich straw yellow, a thin film with oily streaks in the glass. Without water. Significantly cold charcoal smoke at first. After that, yellow and green pomaceous fruit that are not yet too ripe. There is also an aromatic lime. Neat caramel. The smoke is subliminally present the entire time and is increasingly changing towards smoked bacon. The alcohol is well involved for its 61.8%. No metallic notes or other missing notes noticeable despite its youth. With water, the smoke becomes even more intense and greasy. Slightly maritime with a seaweed aroma and a salty note.
    • Taste
Very sweet start in the mouth right away. Oily mouthfeel. The alcohol strength is shown by a slight sharpness reminiscent of red aromatic pepper. Furthermore a very nice fruitiness. Smoke is less dominant in the taste than one would have expected from the nose. Despite over 60% alcohol content, the youngster is easy to drink even without being diluted with water.
    • Finish
At the end slightly astringent on the palate and tongue, certainly mainly due to the alcohol strength. Towards the end, the smoke and peat come back compactly. Some oak spice and bitterness, which is reflected in a pleasant coffee note. The aromas from the smoke remain in the mouth for longer, otherwise the finish is more medium to short-lived.
