I'd be happy if a friend offers me this, but I wouldn't soon buy a bottle.

Nose

Hi Pedro (Ximénez)! Sour, copper coins, but strangely enough also lemon yoghurt. Make no mistake though, this is an over the top bomb. Hints of rum raisins, balsamic vinegar, crème de cassis and nougat. With some sulphur as well, if that's your thing. If you're into PX, you should probably buy this.

Taste

Thick and syrupy mouthfeel. There's some interesting bright citrus notes behind the sherry attack. Milk chocolate and chili pepper, some pickled lemons too, as well balsamic and tablet.

Finish

Lingering notes of brown sugar and dates. Pretty long.

Nice sherry whisky with a round, not penetrating taste. Reminiscent of a Glendronach - only the cherry-sour note in the foreground and the light mushroom note in the background reveal the Edradour. Looks much older - only the (quite nice) finish is unfortunately much too short.

So is this a sherrybomb? Definitely! And to be honest it's really too much. Its profile is like an overpowered old sherry with a big chunk of alcohol. Many sweetsour notes in the nose. Too much. The palate is better as it is more balanced. It's very complex though, but there is nothing Edradour to be found in it.

Nose

Dried fruits at first. Raisins and dates. A note of very old sherry. Blackcurrant followed by a very clear note of balsamico vinegar. Very sour. Next a note of copper coins. It turns dark and roasty now with notes of dark chocolate, black coffee and cacao. A little hint of leather and cloves. At the end notes of syrup and glaced bacon.

Taste

Definitely a clear hint of old sherry complemented by raisins, dates and black cherries. There is even a note of coca cola in there. Sour notes, some like acid. Balsamico vinegar again and something like (AA) batteries. It turns roasty and spicy now. Notes of black coffee, dark chocolate and cacao too. At the end notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and red chili peppers to top it off.

Medium-long. Sticky syrup and brown sugar. Some coffee, cacao and old oak.

This is clearly an over the top cask driven whisky. With this type of drams I'd indeed say: "wood makes the whisky". The level of influence on the final spirit is probably much more than 70% which seems to be an accepted average.

To me, this is not a positive development. This feels like a young sherry on steroids rather than a whisky. If you are into sherry bombs, this could be your "ultimate" pick.

Nose

This is a sherry bomb without any doubt. It lacks complexity and is all about the maturation. Sulphur (rotten eggs, fireworks), rum-soaked raisin, fudge, blackcurrant. There is some acidic smell that I can't fully pin point. I've read that some detect balsamic vinegar, but that smells more pleasant than this whisky in my opinion. I regard it as an off-note, just as the sulphur.

Taste

No distillery character as in the nose, but a bit better. The sulphur is not so present and there is balance between sweet and sour. Now more into balsamic acid, forest fruit, syrup.

Finish

Long, only a notch drying, but mainly still sweet and sour. Like eating pancakes with a lot of syrup.

Smoke, wood, distillery character completely gone. Sherry all the way. it's like a glendronach with a little sourness. Tasty but also a pity

Intriguing drink. In my opinion a typical Edradour. Very strong sherry influences with oranges, spices, wood. Nice - but very alcoholic and besides that maybe a bit flat. Especially the finish (disappointing).

Nose is a sherry and spice bomb! Alcohol prickle and some oranges with a hint of mentol. Very nice.

Taste

Sweet, caramel and sherry… Hint of vinegar. Strong and oily, intense with some sourness (cherries?) and peppers. For sure some tobacco too! Warm and lovely but very strong! Rather dry… but great!

Finish

Kind of short, maybe a bit boring; the alcohol is still there… And it keeps on giving a warm feeling. Cake and grains (like cereal). Kind of sandy…

A modern sherry bomb. The sherry completely overshadows the character of the distillery. Not a bad whisky but not worth the hype.
