Nose: sweet, typical Caol Ila Rauch, a bit wild, a nice strong red wine note - like putting your nose in an empty red wine barrel, red fresh fruits like strawberries with vanilla sauce, when your nose gets used to the smoke it gets even sweeter, the red wine notes come out clearly

Palate: strong, nice campfire smoke, sweet, malt, the wine barrel is present - furthermore the red berries, a subtle spicy oak, a little smoked paprika powder, a little citrus fruit

Finish: medium length, some pepper, spicy oak, slightly bitter grapefruit, ends dry

Despite the young age, it looks very balanced on the palate. The game between smoke and red wine is really great and successful here. You can tell that the first-fill red wine barrel was high quality and very active. Overall, it is fresh and very easy to drink - the alcohol is super integrated. The only drawback with this great bottling for me is the price - unfortunately! Otherwise it would be THE summer whisky 2020 for me.

The single malt or single cask whisky is just 6 years old, which also had a finish for 6 months in First-Fill Château Lafite Bordeaux. The barrel must have been a particularly good one. The malt doesn't come like 6 years and 6 months. It is dynamic, lively and fresh and slightly playful, but not in an immature way.
The wine finish is definitely noticeable, but not too intense. This makes the whisky easy to drink and a wonderful addition for non-wine lovers like me.

For me a summer whisky. Maybe even an aperitif of a special kind.

Very oily at first, with light and open smoke. Maritime notes follow, which quickly disappeared again. This is followed by tones of rose and red wine, as well as the freshness of an Aperol Spritz.

The enormous freshness is also reflected in the gentle fruits. The fruits are light, without which there is a dominant presence. It has something of a sweet strawberry bowl. Over time, it gets slightly darker with blueberries and raspberries.

After 20 minutes in the glass, the fruits become stronger and the influence of wine becomes clearer.

Directly a voluminous start. The 51.7% are wonderfully integrated and create an oily to creamy mouthfeel.

The smoke recedes in favor of the wine aromas as well as the summer berries and fills the mouth with a nice sweetness.

It is very delicate on the tongue and shows character without having too strong corners and cards. Everything harmonises perfectly.
    • Finish
      91 91
The medium-long finish begins with a pleasant, sweet smoky note that rises again into the mouth.

The mouthfeel becomes drier, but not sticky. A sweet berry remains in the throat and on the tongue.

With the second sip, light seasoning from the barrel is added. It is reminiscent of pink pepper, or shinus, as it is called.
