After a minute or so biscuit and green apple, very pleasant.
Spicy and fruity basically at first, a little stewed apple, with a touch of wood but at 40 years you would expect that, but no issues with it. Balance is good.
As you go it gets a little dryer.
Finish is pretty long, gentle with a little icing sugar sweetness.
This was obviously close to going under at 40.9%, very good but if it had been bottled a few years earlier, even 4 or 5 and it been over 46% perhaps, it would have been awesome.
A very good, fragile old HP, great stuff.
After 5 minutes in the glass there is more of everything and it seems even stronger now abv wise
