Interesting whisky for sure! It will make you think about “hmmm, what’s that thing in there”? Combination of peat and sherry, where the sherry is actually rather dry than sweet, entertaining!

quite heavy, kind of “mushy”, old furniture, dry, some dark fruit, currant, rum-soaked raisins, smoke with some sour note, almost like burning bush

Taste: the first sip surprised me, strong feeling, a bit sharp, then it fades away, there are cherries, dried fruits (sultanas, figs), milk chocolate, something weird (after checking other reviews I identified it’s most likely the sulfuric notes), added water balances the sharpness, brings more dried fruit, weird notes disappear
    • Finish

rather long, bitter, dry, peat, caramel notes

Peat and smoke complement so perfectly with dried fruity notes like raisins, dates and prunes. More fruity (citrussy) notes follow like lemon, oranges and cranberries. Some maritime notes like sea-salt and a fireplace with a note of iodine. At the end a little hint of eucalyptus.

Peat and smoke again with very peppery touches like black and white pepper. Raisins dates and a hint of caramel too. There is a touch of dark chocolate. Only a single note of citrus fruit like oranges. Also on the palate maritime notes like sea-salt and a bonfire. At the end some oak.

Long! Yes it keeps lingering on with a smoky aftertaste. A little hint of raisins with caramel. Some dark chocolate too with oak.

Dunnage, aspirin tablets, salinity, wood smoke, dry sherry notes, burnt matches, wet wool aka farmy.
    • Taste
      86 86
The initial mouthfeel is complex and balanced, in line with the nose. It also feels quite peaty and spicier . However the sherry influence grows bigger and bigger with more sulfur.
    • Finish
      84 84
Sulfur notes as well as notes from plastic boots are more to the front now. Caramelized roasted nuts and sweet peat struggle to balance the whole but fail.

Very good, perfectly balanced, complex Islay malt. Apparently not a seasoned barrel, but something very high quality. Minimal sulfur, which doesn't bother us here, but makes the malt even more interesting.

Blueberry, caramel, peat smoke, peach and sulphur.
    • Taste
Peat, cherry, mocha, gingerbread and peach. Water adds milk.
    • Finish
A lighter fruitiness behind the peat.

Incredibly smooth for a cask strength whisky. Although the peat is there, it reminds me above all of a nice woodfire with the fruity notes coming through nicely in the finish. My guess would be also a Caol Ila. Delicious

Solid dram. Most probably Caol Ila?
