    Notes from a blind tasting.

Difficult. Very simple nose, struggling to release its aromas. More accessible and friendly in the mouth, especially after adding a few drops of water.
    Overall not impressive.
    • Nose
      81 81
First cool, ashy smoke flows out of the glass, menthol, freshness, something mineral. The alcohol is not well integrated, it literally stings the nose. Everything else has a hard time coming up against it. It takes a long time for shy vanilla notes and some cookie dough to show up.
    • Taste
      84 84
Tart and dry attack, smoke, cooled ash, now sweet yellow fruits. Oak spice comes on top. A little water helps, makes things rounder and smoother.
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium length, cold smoke, fruity sweetness in the cheek pouches, oak spice.

Medicinally smoky, but also pleasantly fruity and bready, Mirabelle
    • Taste
      89 89
Medicinally smoky, sweetish, classic, well aged, carries alcohol but is otherwise restrained
    • Finish
      87 87
      Dark, gentle, but quite long

    [Blind Tasting Notes]

Tip: UA (Hunter or Douglas Laing?) Ledaig or an OA Port Charlotte. 12 years? bourbon cask.

Wow, he's dirty. Burnt rubber, cowshed, motor, castor or fish oil, grease, everything is there. But you can "sniff your way in" and if you like Ledaig and/or Ballechin, you won't pour this one down the drain either. The smoke is definitely multi-faceted and the alcohol is non-existent.

I'll lean far out of the window and say it doesn't need water. Surprisingly tame after the impetuous nose. Mild, sweet, and of course still very tarry-smoky.
    • Finish
      87 87
endless, what else? Ash, charcoal, soot, tar, exhaust gas, all kinds of burnt and charred stuff, plus vanilla sugar, lemonade and corn syrup. After a while it gets herbal. camphor and rosemary?

Splendid. For me a whisky to fall in love with. Typical Laphroaig aromas in a pleasant accompaniment of sweetness and spice. In addition, a nice complexity. Alcohol does its job as a flavor carrier, but is otherwise very cautious. I am thrilled and happy that I accidentally bought a second bottle of it.
    • Nose
Clear phenolic smoke with a light fruity sweetness of overripe fruits. The smell of damp forest floor follows. This is gradually being replaced by maritime flavors. Salted caramel, malt and vanilla can also be found. Everything harmoniously connected.
    • Taste
Creamy and soft to the touch. Immediately the smoke comes and is followed by the sweetness and the salty caramel. In the mouth there is also a lot of spice that was not found in the nose. Instead, the fruits are a bit more covered here. Mainly citrus fruits. The alcohol is very well integrated.
    • Finish
A nice, long finish with spice and sweetness, without bitterness and sharpness
