  1. Koning scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

A good dram, remarkably more sherried than the 15 Triple Cask (wb id 113052 ). Relative fair price-quality ratio compared to the severely overpriced older expressions and the endless avalanche of no age stated Macallans.
    • Nose
      86 86
Vanilla fudge, yellow raisins, oranges and oak spices. Becomes darker after a while with scents of coffee, cacao and roasted notes.
    • Taste
      87 87
Coffee, vanilla, spices, dried plums and sour cherries at the front. Notes of savoury soy sauce, honey and cake appear from the background. After a while a bitterness develops.
    • Finish
      86 86
Brown sugar, vanilla, coffee, apples and bitter oranges, and walnut. An interesting note turmeric peeks around the corner.

Love the nose, such a beautiful parfum and very unique. Not a sherry bomb, but gentle and delicate.
    • Nose
      87 87
Typical Macallan cereals and also mineral water. Also raisins, marmalade, hint of ginger.
    • Taste
      87 87
Prefer the nose over the taste, but is very sherried. Also marmelada here, some citrus, dark chocolate and a bit spicy.
    • Finish
      86 86
I think is medium but always had some trouble evaluating this item.

  3. whiskyorigins scored this whisky 81 points Newbie

It is not bad as such, but certainly not as good as some other sherried 15yo malts, for example Glendronach Revival, and as not as good as some of the recent sherried Macallans, for example the Harmony Rich Cacao.

  4. cloudyweedram scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Surprisingly good quality. The nose's splendid, the palate could keep up, and the finish is enjoyable!
    • Nose
      86 86
The nose is full of butterscotch, infused with a little espresso, which is encouraging. There's also honey syrup and melt butter. All on the warm side. A little ashy note was also found, coupled with dried figs and wood shaves.
Hint of red berry added some freshness. But the major tone is on butterscotch. With time, there's also some creamy and citrus notes. Overall the nose is nice and showed itself confidently. Splendid.
    • Taste
      85 85
Sweet, thick and mellow. Gentle to the tongue, and wet your mouth! There's some black currant skin a the back, quite unexpected. There's also a whiff of mint. Good quality.
    • Finish
      84 84
The aftertaste lingered long in the throat, and warmed the chest little by little slowly. This made the entire process more enjoyable. Job well done! Some high % dark chocolate were found, a little, but just a little, resinous feeling took back a point or so.

  5. HammerHead scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

Tasted side by side with the 15 old triple cask. Like the triple cask it's pretty ok, but a bit too dry in development and finish. Again, the standard price level over €100 is laughable. There's loads of other drams out there (also more heavily sherried ones) with comparable quality for much less money.
    • Nose
      83 83
Malty as the triple cask (porridge, cereal), but a bit more of a dark sherry feel to it, though less juicy. Dried apricot, raisin, fig, some dark sour berries. Also dark chocolate and a distinct leather note, walnuts, clove, slight cinnamon. A minor sulphur note (struck match) in the background.
    • Taste
      84 84
Quite full and round at only 43% abv. More leather, dark and dried fruitiness, now sour cherries, more clear on raisins and juicy berries, lots of dark chocolate and some coffee bitters. Nutty, clove, nutmeg, in the development increasing levels of black pepper.
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium to long: lots of dusty cocoa, espresso, creamy nuttiness, dry wood spices (clove, nutmeg and pepper).

  7. Hegu scored this whisky 76 points Expert Junior

Whisky aged in American and European oak barrels of a classic distillery.
    • Nose
Raisins, vanilla, pan coffee, dark chocolate, malt.
    • Taste
A dry, softly stylish start that turns dry and tannic, however.
    • Finish
Creamy, full-bodied finish. Compared to the price tag, disappointing, the classic has stumbled and tries up but is not quite capable.

  8. MaroFF scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

I am a bit surprised with this whisky from the moment of "taste". After a medium-expressive aroma, which you have to smell well, to be able to feel something, the taste began to make up for the average (up to this point) note of this whisky. The finish is already a beautiful ending, although in my opinion it could be a speck less ginger.
    • Nose
      86 86
delicate, sweet, dried fruit, raisins, apple jam
    • Taste
      88 88
sherry, a bit of ginger, chocolate, and pepper
    • Finish
      88 88
quite long, sweet at the end, strongly warming, ginger-like, pleasant

    • Nose
Sherry, dates, raisins, citrus, boiled fruit, spices, milk chocolate
    • Taste
The mouth has a rich chocolate flavor, accompanied by creamy, nutty and cinnamon flavors
    • Finish
      Long tail rhyme, ginger, wood

  10. Robinzon25 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Delicious sherry whisky for every day, with berry notes.
    • Nose
Currant leaves, chocolate, honey, dried fruits.
    • Taste
      Berry jam, figs, spices, oak.
    • Finish
Medium length, filled with hints of honey, figs and cocoa, with moderate oak influences and berry sourness at the end.

My very first bottle of Macallan. What can I say? It istantly had me. Balanced and so smooth. I will definitely try more from Macallan. I picked it up for 84 euroes which is a good price for this quality!
    • Nose
      90 90
Black/dried fruits, figs, raisins, orange and some citrus in the background, baking spices, a hint of cinnamon, sherry, ginger, butterscotch
    • Taste
      96 96
Full body, honey, ginger, hazelnuts, sherry, orange and lemon in the background, some cinnamon, baking spices, sweet, butterscotch, some oakiness follows
    • Finish
      92 92
long, ginger, oaky, dark chocolate, hazelnuts, butterscotch

The Sherry Cask series offers more but is more expensive.
Unfortunately, there is no 15 there.
Participated in an FT out of interest.

Amber color. Oily whisky in a glass.
    • Nose
      87 87
Pleasant, rich, volatile. Clear notes of Sherry Oloroso. There is a certain "dryness", dryness. Dried fruit, but not sweet. Delicate vanilla accents underneath. Dried plum. Dark, dark or even slightly bitter chocolate with cherries. Some more chocolate notes over time. Accents of sweet white coffee. Cappuccino. Subtle hints of citrus under the traces. A pinch of spices. Cinnamon and ginger.
    • Taste
      84 84
Sherry Oloroso Sheet music. Spices. Ginger, and quite spicy. Later, a lot of dark chocolate. Dried fruit, but again not sweet, dry. Bitter chocolate with plums. The whisky is quite thick and oily. The next time the fruit.
    • Finish
      83 83
Bitter chocolate, even very bitter. The bitterness of the barrel. Spices. Pepper. Medium-long finish. More chocolate the second time. Not that bitter. Traces of fruit underneath.

    • Nose
      85 85
Big time ginger and citrus notes. Some baking spices, raisins, honey.
    • Taste
      88 88
Honey and ginger, hazelnut, oranges and chocolate. Golden raisins, some fruitness but is quickly balanced by the dry oakiness. Macallan always did have a nice sherry profile.
    • Finish
      82 82
This is where it sort of falls flat. Nice drying oak that lingers and some chocolate but it tapers off too quickly. It's nice and pleasant but not great or even memorable. Seems to want you to keep drinking more.

  16. marmeladow scored this whisky 94 points Expert Senior

    Complex and very tasty.
Characteristic, as always overpriced Macallan pricing, a price of around € 100 would be more appropriate!
    • Nose
      92 92
filigree oak and sandalwood aromas, ripe fruits; pleasant spicy aromas: cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger.
      Maltiness with almonds.
Sherry barrel influence in the background: raisins, sultanas pickled in good rum.
Non-intrusive sweetness: vanilla, chocolate, caramel, honey
    • Taste
      93 93
Creamy, lining the mouth. The 43% carry the variety of flavors well. Multi-layered and complex. Contains everything that the nose promised, plus discrete hints of citrus fruit
    • Finish
      92 92
long lasting, becomes a little more gingery and the chocolate tends to be dark chocolate for men

    RATING: 86pts – |83 – 86 (B) → Good| — Not a “must”, but a nice-to-have.
    • Nose
      85 85
The nose has notes of figs and orange zest in chocolate complemented by baking spices and stewed berries.
    • Taste
      87 87
The taste is full of chocolate and citrus zest and has a nice sweetness along with cinnamon and Nutella cream.
    • Finish
      87 87
The finish is medium to long, tannic and rather layered with notes of chocolate, figs, black raisins and caramel.

  22. SwiftyMcVeigh scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

As usual from Macallan, a gentleman whisky. Balanced and smooth. For uncomplicated enjoyment. But there is also a lot to discover. For less than 100 € I would buy it.
    • Nose
      86 86
The dried fruits typical of sherry whiskys (figs, dates). Jam of red berries, nuts and dark chocolate. Orange. Honey. Minimal smoke. Oak seasoning. Rounded and coherent.
    • Taste
      87 87
The nose is reflected on the palate. Very pleasant and balanced. The orange is in the foreground. Then the seasoning sets in, but not too intrusive. Unmistakably a Macallan.
    • Finish
      83 83
Dark chocolate and seasoning. Also a hint of smoke. Not very long.

  23. Whisky Hamster scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

Good, relatively full-bodies, malt with wood spiciness. No off notes, medium complexity. Was pleasantly surprised... until I heard what it cost. Maybe a good addition to my bar if it was around 50 EUR. :-)

  25. DistiLesha scored this whisky 78 points Expert Senior

This sherry barrel clearly spoils the bourbon in this blend. The whisky gets rougher and more ambiguous. I would definitely not buy myself such a bottle, I don't know what to do with it.
    • Nose
We can say thank you for not surfaced grain tones, but the rubber is clearly there.
    • Taste
The taste has floated, the sweetness is replaced by a rather dull sherry, a strange sourness.
    • Finish
The finish is one of the worst in the lineup.

  26. Dram Brigade scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Quite an enjoyable and sweet dram. Like the milky fruity nose, and elegant finish. A modern core range Macallan that is better than many of their special releases.
    • Nose
      86 86
Milk chocolate, apple stew, crisp pears, toffee, malt sweetness. A thin layer of raw tropical honey, frosties breakfast cereal, and some dark chocolate. A tiny bit of sulfur. Overall very fragrant, and sweet.
    • Taste
      83 83
Black tea with fruits, tingling wood spice, dark chocolate. Hints of dried dark fruits and little ginger. A little oily and tongue coating. If compare to the nose, a bit thin in flavors.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium, with warming ginger, plum, and little citrus

    1514) The Macallan, 15YO, Double Cask (2020)
    • Nose
N- Liquorice candy with spicy pickle white fruit, punchy and penetrating, nose warming with flows of American Oak goodies. Vanilla, floral, snappy fresh Rose Apple and yellowish petite Asian Pear, crisp and crunchy. More floral developed after breath. (90/22)
    • Taste
P- Flow of coffee, sherry, nutty with tinge of sour plum, cinnamon and bitter strong black tea. Black fruits jam, waxy and chewy apple/pear mashes. Mesmerize by the elegant spicy mouth coat. (89/22)
    • Finish
F- Medium long, smooth with echoing dry charred notes. Spicy ginger and pleasantly warming. (87/21)

B/B- 88/22 Delicious stuff. Modern but masterfully vatted by keeping the much wanted spiciness to counter the sweets.

      Weighted Rate- 87pt

  29. Whiskylifestyle scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
Dried fruits, such as figs and dates. Raisins. Citrus here too, giving it a fresh note. Sweet oranges in the background. Dark chocolate. A layer of honey. Stewed red fruit. A hint of sulphur, but in the very background.
    • Taste
Plenty of dark chocolate here. Toffee and caramel fudge. Sweet raisins. A hint of lemon peels, oranges too. This is followed by hazelnuts. Ginger. Cinnamon and some nutmeg in the background.
    • Finish
Mid-long. Toffee and ginger. Some spices here as well, such as crushed black peppercorns, nutmeg.
