In a lineup of Loch Lomond with the regular 12yo and some similarly aged, strongly cask influenced exclusive bottlings, I feel this refill one turned out to be best, since it toned down a little on the fruit candy sweetness prominently on display in the other drams.

Apparently their refill policy is that a cask is rejuvenated by scraping and recharring after 3 fills, then again after another 3, for a total of 9 fills. According to LL, their bourbon casks impart more caramel notes, while the recharred refill ones give more coconut and toffee.
    • Nose
Feels drier than the regular 12yo. No "dry white wine" dryness, but just more muted on the fruity notes, which allows space for some nuance. Some dry oak, leaves, and vanilla. Some herbal touches as well. It almost feels like the faint amount of peat in it makes it a bit medicinal. After a while in the glass, some dustiness, vivid fresh lemon, and toffee.
    • Taste
I like the soft oak notes here. Some tar, linen, salted licorice, faint vanilla. Quite a bit less sweet than the regular 12yo. Some grittiness in the body, but nothing bad. The body feels solid and weighty on the tongue, no wateriness here.
    • Finish
A bold, sweet, and very ripe pear tail on this one.

Championship cancelled, but whisky not cancelled ))
    • Nose
Green apple, honeydew melon and citrus zest, with a backdrop of honeyed barley and cut grass
    • Taste
Fresh pear and peach continue the fruity theme, with a subtle hint of caramel-coated biscuit develops
    • Finish
Lemon and grapefruit zest, plus some toasty oak

Another good (not great) expression by Loch Lomond. I said it before: they are doing something pretty good down there at the lake.

It might be the time of year, but this is the 2nd dram this afternoon which really improves when warming it in the hand. Up come the typical Loch Lomond flavors. Tropical fruit, grass, vanilla. Pretty nice and even strong smell.
    • Taste

Nice and warm mouth feeling. Nice balance of fruity and spicy flavors.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium long. Dry, slightly watery and a touch of bitterness in the end.
