    COLOR : copper (without dye!)

    - unfortunately (for me) a very disappointing one
    cask-heavy bottling
    - unfortunately much worse than Batch 1 and also as a single
    Cask 2008/2017 (Bourbon Cask 344)
    - for about 65€ too expensive for the quality shown
    • Nose
heavy, strong fruity note, dry sherry, plum
    • Taste
      without water: strong, pungent, slightly bitter, fruity attack, the European Oak can be felt clearly, very strongly, needs water;

with W.: very intense astringent, very dry attack, bitter oak, alcoholic afterburning (also with water), spicy, very bitter oak, dry sherry
    • Finish
      medium length, very dry, bitter finish;
      medium-long dry aftertaste, alcoholic afterburn

    • Nose
Vanilla cream, quite a bit in the nose, herbs, orange pepper, carafe, plums.
    • Taste
Against Batch 1 quite sharp and rough. Really rough. Strong spices and alcohol, cloves, citrus peel and sweetness.
    • Finish
Slightly bitter, spicy, smoky and longer.

Benromach Cask Strength is very, very good bottling as standard. However, I would say that Batch 1 (WB130270) was a little better.
    (Evaluated on a sample basis.)
    • Nose
Herbs, red fruits, cinnamon and caramel.

After adding water: Worcester sauce, cane sugar and tea cakes.
    • Taste
Very warm. Orange peel, wood and dried banana.
    • Finish
Drier, slightly astringent. Citrus peel and cinnamon.

      Spicy after adding water.

Aroma: very heavy, distinctive, chocolate, tones of marzipan and sulfur
Taste: mildly smoky, heavy, spicy, tobacco with raisins, plums or plum jam

  10. Hoorhay scored this whisky 68 points Expert Senior

Too young, too nippy. Spirit is still coming through. Got it as a sample, so there's possible decrease of quality

This Benromach is one of the best 10 years old Cask Strength single malts that I've tasted. Maybe Laphroaig 10 YO CS batch #011 beats this one.
And it is a very balanced and complex for its age. Not overly peaty and the sherry influence is spot on but in a right mix with the peat.

Delicious, full-bodied ... In general, a solid malt.

Good malt but not an easy sipper like the last batches of the 100° Proof. Has Highland, almost coastal notes, slight smoke. Takes water well, needs time and air to open up. Finish is a tad short, but despite the nose being a bit dirty it has no real off notes on the palate which is a plus.

    Aroma: Intense, dense, open.
In the foreground is minerality, industrial notes, peat, a barnyard.
We stood there and breathed ..... Vanilla, creamy motifs, strawberry jam, unripe strawberries, grassiness, dusty burlap, spicy spices.
Taste: Bright, powerful. Vanilla, dried fruit concentrate, citrus zest, mineral notes, herbiness, a little peat, spicy spices.
Finish: Long lasting. Industrial notes, herb, vanilla, barnyard, spices.
    Conclusion: Quite an original whisky.
Well tailored, with a harmonious mix of aged in sherry and bourbon casks.
As it seemed, the base still prevailed over the work of the barrels, but this is not critical.
Despite the roughness, you want to drink, drink and drink again

Finest goods. Nice balance between smoke and sweetness.
    First impression: sweet, smoked bacon.
Intense aroma and full flavor. Pleasantly soft for 57.1% vol.
    Delicious!

  20. Malzbrenner scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Today in the glass a now old bottling of a Benromach. The whisky from 2009 was bottled around ten years old at cask strength with 57.1% vol. The whisky in the glass is dark gold and has a medium viscosity.
To say it right away: Wow! This is great cinema and a lot of great whisky for the price called out. I'm excited.
    • Nose
      88 88
When you first smell it, it is fruity, smoky and juicy. The second contact reveals a fine, almost salty marine smoke, notes of lemon, apricot, baked banana, ripe pineapple and warm biscuits. A touch of camphor or salmiak lozenges is accompanied by an exciting herbal note.
The alcohol does not bother and is very well integrated. Compared to the bottling from 2008, I perceive a stronger smoke note here. The anticipation grows!
    • Taste
      90 90
The fruity-smoky character of the whisky continues on the palate, but I like to add a little water. The smoke becomes significantly softer and more restrained, pleasant sherry sweetness, ripe apricots and peaches take the lead. A little white pepper and pleasant mint give the dram freshness, after which bananas and cocoa powder immediately spread a pleasant warmth on the palate. I really like it with a little water and recommend playing with your concentration. Numerous facets are revealed.
    • Finish
      88 88
In the finish, I see the Benromach medium to long, even after adding water. At first a pleasant freshness before the fruity, lemony side sets in. Here is a slightly maritime note on the palate, or is it my salmiak pastilles? Then slowly a very fine and fruity sweetness, ripe apricots, fried bananas and caramelized pineapple. It's fun until the end!

Great PLV. It still looks a bit constructed in the nose and a bit too barrel-heavy in the mouth, but it is ideal as an everyday dram.
    • Nose
      87 87
medium-strength campfire smoke and fine ash compete with sherry and raisins for supremacy, grill vs. cooked fruits, fully ripe cherries, vanilla, charred beech and oak with pepper and clove, smoked ham, some ripe orange, caramel, some marzipan and sugar flavors, Hints of plum liqueur, liquid honey, raspberries, leather
    • Taste
      84 84
Spicy oak mixes with fruity sherry and campfire ash, light bitter astringency from the barrel, barley malt, cloves and pepper, some smoked ham, firm bitter oranges, grassy notes of clover and laurel, dull vanilla, mineral with chalk
    • Finish
      87 87
Delicious grassy oak with lots of ash and campfire smoke, pepper accents, rosemary, moss and clover, again black smoked ham, some grill marinade with honey, pine resin and earth, hazelnuts, sherry influences can only be guessed at

This has a massive blast of peat on the nose, mixed with ash.
The palate neat is really juicy, lip smacking, peat and sherrry mixing well woth a nice spice note.
I do not think water is needed but her goes.
The nose gets more shy and the palate gets creamy but the peat is still there mixing with stewed fruit and sherry.
Great balance again and great flavours.
    Definately worth a purchase.
The thing is there is plenty of fruit with a little spice so this is not a one tirck peat pony.
