Whisky Reviews for Deanston 2009 MBl

22 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.86 points

  1. Macallan1968 scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

Good PX Sherry Whisky from Deanston! Full fruit, rich PX sherry and the alcohol is well integrated! The barrel was a good choice from The Maltman.
Of course, price-performance also plays a role in the rating - let's put it this way, if the bottle had a different name, we would be at a completely different price :-) Liked, tasted and just right for in between.

After quite some "bad" deanston releases, I liked this a lot.
Okay, might have been the company I tasted this with (first whisky meetup after corona...).
Sadly this does barely have the lovage notes ("Liebstöckl") that come with the original 10 PX Finish from the distillery.

Short finish, but clean in the nose, delivery and mouth.
I really liked it, was one of the better drams of that day.

Due to the finish not quite such a brute sherry bomb. Pleasant, but also interchangeable. nothing special.

  7. Bartels scored this whisky 90 points Newbie

    • Nose
Without water: caramel to forest honey with a lot of fresh acidity from grapes and a meaty note (lovage). Herbal notes and mint. Something closed.

With water: sweeter and darker. Dried fruits. Forest honey. Clear vanilla and barrel flavor. Leathery.
    • Taste
Without water: strong sherry fruitiness with a lot of acidity and honey sweetness. Astringent. Wood wort. Very well integrated alcohol.

With water: sweet at the beginning. Light dried fruits, then becoming more and more sour and dry. Spicy and very dry.
    • Finish
Without water: acidity and sweetness and flavor, becoming quite dry. Light tobacco notes.

With water: strongly spicy and very dry. Tobacco and leather again.
