Appearance: Light to medium golden with orange tints. Oily and thick. Great legs.
Nose: Very malty, from the time it is poured, orange, vanilla, malt sugar, caramel, light smoke, more campfire than iodine, cinnamon, raisin, touch of ginger, cookies. lovely, malty, sweet. Not much of a burn. Touch of pineapple.
Palate: Sweet malt sugar, oak, vanilla, cinnamon, pepper, caramel, raisin, pineapple, citrus. Bit of smoke. Cardamon,
Finish: Spicy, quite a burn without water, oak, pepper, honey and biscuits. Quite long really.
With Water: Sweeter malts in the nose, bit more pineapple and tropical fruits. Flavor is very spicy, malty, fruity. More fruit, less burn. The finish is maltier and fruitier. Definitely opens up with some. A few more drops makes it even more accessible. And brings out the smoke better too, especially in the finish.
Overall: This is pretty impressive for only 10 years old. Complex, great malt character. But damn, it is expensive. Twice the price of many others 10s. Respect for the distillery makes me willing to pay a bit more, but this is a stretch. It’s great stuff, but not at all great value.
