    The Benromach 15 Years is as good if not better than when it was first introduced five years ago.
    • Nose
      Praise be! There's that Benromach profile I've come to expect and love! It has that classic soft barbecue smoke and grilled bacon aspect, but with lots of dried red fruits and hints of chocolate. There are some shy touches of citrus, grilled nectarine and pineapple too. A surprising hint of mint as well as a quick hit of tobacco leaves. Benromach at the top of its game.
    • Taste
      Quite oak-y and dry. It has some fruity aspects, like red apples and plums, but also there's also cocoa powder, a soft touch of smoke and cracked black pepper corns. Just a touch of eucalyptus.
    • Finish
      Sherried, fruity and spicy. Drying and medium in length.

  2. Treezzey scored this whisky 90 points Member Senior

    Do you like dirty whiskies with a lot of character? Earthy. Little sour. Tiny bit of funk. Dry. Dark chocolate. Slightest touch of eucalyptus. Chocolate bitter orange. Leather. Cigar. Then back to the sour, earthy, funk.

    It’s like a dirty Mortlach meets a teenaged Springbank with a hearty dash of 20+ year sherried Ben Nevis thrown in. These are all of my favorites in one spot.

    I think I would rate this whisky higher in a blind review.

    This won’t be for everyone but if you like the characterful whiskies listed above you will like this. The 15 is better than the 21. The 21 suffers from too much dilution in a relatively more fragile whisky and comes across as bland as a result.

    For €70, I will never be without this or a similar Benromach in my cabinet. Single cask Benromachs just shot to the top of my wish list.

    I offer a round of applause and raise a glass to G&M / Benromach for making a truly individualistic whisky. Well done!

    BLIND PROVEN
    Ripe red fruits and smoked meat
    Aroma can be hardly sorted out by flavours, seems like a monolith mix.
    Nice spicy development with a pleasant aftertaste.

      The first time I've had this Benromach in my glass. The smell has something of smoked bacon, dark fruits and a note of maple syrup and vanilla. A slight hint of mint. Overall very interesting.
    • Taste
      86 86
      Red fruits, spicy and a gentle smoke. The body is not quite as strong due to the 43%, but a nice drinking strength. I would have liked it a bit better at 46%, but overall very well balanced.
    • Finish
      88 88
      The finish is longer than I would have expected, the smoke settles nicely and lingers. There is a bit of woody spice and vanilla sweetness.
      From the initial odor profile to the finish, a very varied dram. I like it!!

    N- beautiful, ever-changing nose with ripe orange, eucalyptus, earthy aromas, dark berries, maple syrup, chocolate, cold stones, leather. Really great what's happening here. No alcohol perceptible, you can hold your nose quite deep in the glass.

    M- Very mild departure, fruit aromas with subtle oiliness envelop the mouth. Again, nothing super concise aromas, but rather a wide spectrum of berries, nuts, earthy aromas, warm wood. the smoke remains discreetly in the finish, but also gives the whole thing a little more expression

  6. Hsh scored this whisky 83 points Expert Junior

    Light peat orange, caramel, slightly salted vanilla

    Some nice evolution over the 10-year-old, but still nothing that convinces me very much.

    COLOUR: amber (without dye)

    - a completely different Benromach 15 y. (compared to
    older predecessors until 2020)
    - different mouthfeel, different flavors, more oak more
    Bitterness, less oily and complex, the old bottling
    is unfortunately much better
    - for 60€ still a good price for the quality
    • Nose
      Sherry, fruity, dark berries, wood, tobacco, no smoke
    • Taste
      fruity, dry start, spiciness, wood, slightly bitter, not at all oily or voluminous
    • Finish
      medium length, dry, somewhat bitter finish;
      medium-long dry aftertaste

    ...with the change in optics, they seem to have slightly changed the recipe/cask selection.
    ...the smoke that was clearly present in the 15-year-old is no longer/hardly perceptible!
    ...nevertheless a very good malt!
    [color:] = amber;
    • Nose
      quite fruity (yellow fruits; pineapple, dark berries), sherry, leather, tobacco, wood, no smoke;
    • Taste
      fruity (berries, grapes), fairly dry start, spices (pepper), wood, slightly bitter oak;
    • Finish
      good medium length, dry, spices, slightly bitter aftertaste;

    A great malt whose individual components combine to form a very beautiful and complex whole. Actually everything is correct here.

    https://www.aboutwhisky.de/tastingnotes/benromach-15-years/
    • Nose
      It starts intensely and with lots of sherry. An abundance of sweet citrus fruits such as oranges and tangerines, as well as ripe red apples and wild berries flow towards you. The whole thing with a slightly musty undertone. A great complexity that totally crushes the light peat smoke at first. After a short time, it blends greasy and slightly cooling with the fruit. The bourbon casks bring pleasantly sweet aromas of honey, fudge and vanilla. After a while I also find grapes - fresh and dried as raisins. The overall impression is completed by pleasantly soft oak, old wood, leather and a spicy cigar box.
    • Taste
      An equally intense and complex start as in the nose. The slightly musty sherry starts again, then the sweet citrus fruits, red apples, peaches and grapes stand out again. The smoke comes through again slowly and blends in nicely with the other components. After a few seconds it gets a bit spicier and nutty with almonds and hazelnut chocolate.
    • Finish
      Very long and pleasant. The sweet fruits gradually recede and take with them the sweetness that was still noticeable at first. The balance shifts in favor of the smoke. This is reminiscent of a burned out campfire and smoked bacon. These impressions linger along with mint and After Eight chocolate.

      Strong nose that is difficult to classify, definitely dirty, the red fruits are interwoven and clumped, for me it doesn't go in the direction of smoke, rather earthy and dusty, aromatic cigar

    1654) Benromach, 15YO (Bottled 2020)

    Dull slogan, why have one if it is meaningless? But an opinion that entirely personal, and no disrespect to all the craftman working in the distilleries.
    • Nose
      N- What's important lies in the bottle, as the initial heather honey smokes teases the nose, the toffee, liquorice and natural forest mist drawing in slowly with mold-y, but nice fragrant of damp wood. Peppers awaken as it aired longer, stewed red apple with restrained scents of savoury oxidized sherry odor, sweet resin underlying dried fruit that induce it to a desired level of depth. (87/21)
    • Taste
      P- Firm and full texture, nutty and chocolaty sherry arrives with warm heather honey smokes over aged and elegant leathery notes. (87/21)
    • Finish
      F- Medium long, silky, waxy, herbal-y bitter and cola syrup lead to medium dry mouthfeel. Savoury sweet undertones that took awhile to shows, but worth the wait. (89/22)

    Benromach 15 years, 43% alc. Original bottling (2021). Maturation: first-filled bourbon and sherry barrels

    Nose: My first association is dirty. Charred tobacco, wood ash and roasted nuts, peat smoke. This is followed by cocoa and paprika powder, some black pepper and milk chocolate. A sweetness develops with a mixture of light honey aromas and dark berries. Nice complex nose.

    Palate: First creamy and then dry very quickly, almost salty. The nuts are back, salted pistachios and malt, plus pleasant fruit aromas. Baked apples, still slightly unripe banana, pepper in dark chocolate. The sweetness is holding back.

    Finish: Medium to long, almonds, walnuts and malt, with oak and mild smoke aromas. Conclusion: A Benromach the way I love it, complex and dirty, yet wonderfully harmonious and also enjoyable without any deeper analysis. A whisky for every evening at a very high level. 87/100 points (2021).

    Quite a strong and rather spicy malt with something to discover. The 43% is perfect for this whisky. More would be too much.
    • Nose
      86 86
      Despite the only 43% he has a slight tinge of alcohol in his nose. With a little time, however, the nose becomes very voluminous, the alcohol subsides and red fruits, somewhat sour and very earthy, leathery notes appear. There is something "dirty" there and always some menthol in the nose.
      Since I cannot perceive sulfur as such, I can only assume that it has something because the fleshy, earthy notes are very pronounced.
    • Taste
      85 85
      Strong start despite the low percentages. At first there is no fruit. At first, spice, something meaty, white pepper and leather dominate. Only then do the red fruits come. Fresh fruits such as red, sour apples are also included. Something seems to me like light smoke but without being able to grasp it.
    • Finish
      88 88
      The finish clearly shows a bitter spiciness. But the strongest are leather, charred wood and something bitter.
      The whole thing changes to a light sweetness of brown sugar and maple syrup.

    Oh the nose on this one, just goddamn gorgeous. I could nose this whisky all day, and that isn't an exaggeration. A lot more sherry presence in this one compared to the 10 and that changes a lot in terms of the whisky character. The Bourbon citrus and sweetness is still there, and overall makes a really nice pleasant dram. Finish still leaves something to be desired, but that's maybe because I'm a sucker for a strong, punchy finish. You could drink this one all night and still want more. Really good one to keep in one's bar.
    • Nose
      92 92
      Dark amber color. Burst of peppermint chocolate right off the bat, the peat from the Benromach 10 is gone, replaced by a lot more fruitiness, heavy citric character. Caramelized green apples, hints of cinnamon - like a honeyed apple pie. Can definitely sense some Cabernet Sauvignon character in this, that sherry really comes through. Just such a beautiful sweet nose. I'd so make a cologne out of this if I could.
    • Taste
      86 86
      Immediate acidic fruitiness, not all citrus, some green grape sweetness as well. Lots more cinnamon and pepper spice than the 10 and definitely more bite on the palate. I really liked this, but again compared to the otherwordly nose, the palate was a little subdued.
    • Finish
      82 82
      Very easy on the oalate, short-medium finish. Lingering caramel and spice, some chocolately notes. Very oaky, woody aftertaste. Lingering citric feel, like the kind one gets a whole minute or two after chewing a lime. Very easy drinker, the finish isn't overpowering, nor strong in any way for that matter, but not horrible either. Better than the 10 for sure.
