The new Reserva Andalucia is nice but won’t soon set your world on fire.
    • Nose
Finished for a minimum of 12 months in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks, this is a new release. It’s pretty light and certainly not a sherry bomb. A touch of rhubarb, but then creamy caramel and a bunch of berries (straw and rasp).
    • Taste
Sweet and oily, but not so much vanilla like the 10, but rather sugary and fudge-y. Then also a good amount ripe banana, almost candy-esque at times. A layer of spiciness and nuttiness in the background.
    • Finish
Lingering peanut skins. Red fruits. Finally a slight ashiness. Medium in length.

Dry, soft, recognizable, beautiful nose with flowers and sweet, somewhat tropical fruit. In the aftertaste of black fruit, you could almost swear that it has matured in port - but that's not true, oloroso it is! Great to break an evening with good friends without going bankrupt. Empty far too quickly and a bottle that shakes my principle of buying only one bottle of an expression. Price/quality yields a bonus point. 84 so.

Nice and easy but still with a layer or two to explore. At the current 33 € worth a try, I think.

Soft dried fruit, sweet with a hidden spiciness. With a few drops of water also a bit of fresh fruit and lighter overall.

A bit sharp but just for second. Soon it becomes smoother with red berries and dark chocolate. A bit of honey. With water: a little smoother from the beginning and even less sweet.

Rather short. Nice vanilla notes. Also a decent sweetness with just a hint of dark chocolate. With water it loses the vanilla notes a little, seems less sweet and slightly bitter notes become more prominent.

    Sherry Oloroso finish, yes,
but the sweetness is modest ...
Let's see how this Glencadam develops ...

This Glencadam didn't look bad ...
But I'll stick with it, the sherry finish turned out thin ...

During a blind tasting, quite a few people were guessing this to be the 17 yo portwood or even the 19 yo sherry cask finish. When its true identity was revealed, we were obviously happily surprised. What’s funny is that when you know what your nosing and tasting, you automatically start to anticipate and look for things you’d expect to find. So knowing what I have in the glass before me, the youthfulness of this whisky shows itself more than when tasting blind. If anything, some proper good casks went into this...

blind sample): very rich and fruity-spicy. A bomb of red fruit (berries, figs, plums…) and tropical fruit (kiwi, mango). Toffee apple, honey, treacle/toffee, creamy, spices, salty, licorice, some funky cooked fruit. After 10-15 minutes it mellows out a bit. Less pungent and outspoken on the different sensations, everything becomes more integrated.

(opened bottle): Rich, thick, oily sensation, very buttery and caramel-y leaning into a burst of dark sugar and honey. very fruity as well: raspberry, strawberry, blueberries which gives it a vibrant, youthful (not the same as young, mind) touch. Only then I pick up sultana’s and raisins. Very inviting.
    • Taste
      85 85
(blind sample): Yum! Creamy, baking spices, cooked and dried fruits with a Christmas like touch, sweet spices, nutty, soft wood, well-aged with a thick oily mouth feel.
(opened bottle): A thick, oily mouthfeel. The 1st sensation is that of sweetness (sugary and sweet berries) but what follows brings out a salty note and a soft oaky touch. Grainy and cereal-y as well with allspice and baking spices along with icing sugar.
    • Finish
      83 83
(blind sample): spice (nutmeg mostly, perhaps a hint of clove), medium long, with a sugary note and some soft wood
(opened bottle): oily, sweet & salty, hint of oak and wood. The long salty touch lingers on.
