Whisky Reviews for Timorous Beastie 18-year-old DL

Aroma: open, light, floral, white flowers, milk caramel, vanilla, zest, lemon pie, protein glaze, very confectionery, but at the same time moderate sweetness. The second wave adds wood, a slight dried fruit tone, light minerality.

Taste: bright, ginger, red pepper, cloves, cinnamon, star anise, a lot of oak, very sweet lemonade, creaminess, charred wood, ash content (but not peat), goes into the bitterness of the zest.

Finish: a lot of lemon zest, noticeably mineral, lemonade tones, ginger tea with honey, wood, medium length.

    Score: 87

Bottom line: Douglas Laing came out with a good blended malt, it looks like most or even all refill barrels, as in most of their releases, but they work very well over the 15-20 year interval, not a hint of youth and new pleasant facets open up , which can not be said about the nasa.

Lovely fruity flavours typically Highland. A delicious Whisky and great representation of what a highland whisky should taste like. A very easy, too easy, drinker that can be drunk straight from the bottle and at less than £60 for an 18 year old has to be the bargain of the year in these ridiculously inflated times.

highland blend. presents more like 12-14yo. handles water well. 5/10
    • Nose
nice fresh fruity, cereal nose. nothing too surprising but nicely done. fuzzy peaches, grist, and sliced apple.
    • Taste
quite a sprightly 18, which is welcome enough. no heavy handed casks here. cream, peach, orange segments, barley sugar. goes on medium, becoming slightly wood bitter, with some sweeter bourbon and grain notes.
