Tasted next to the remainder of my Adelphi 13 yo Glen Elgin sample (cask 802276, id 140486). The age clearly shows on this. More fruitiness and less woody spiciness here, the smells and tastes are much better integrated.
Great nose: sweet, sour and a little floral, very citrussy with a sweetness of hard candy. Lemon, sweet tangerine, Fanta, some peach, pear and sour apple, vanilla, green tea, mild wood spices like nutmeg and ginger.
Well balanced: an oily mouthfeel, vanilla, some honey notes, still very much citrussy with lemon, pomelo, orange zest and some canned tangerines. Hints of apple and pear with an overcoat of herbal (grassy), dusty and drying wood spice (clear pepper and some nutmeg).
It gives fresh but ripe fruit sensations like Apple, pear and apricot. Besides that a combination of fresh and dried spices like cinnamon, licorice, black tea, dried vanilla and wood spices.
A medium to long finish: honeyed sweetness, pomelo juice, hints of vanilla, drying out quite quickly leaving a feel of dusty oak.
