A lovely, sweet and light dram. The Madeira casks left an incredible influence on the nose. I imagine at cask strength this would have been incredible. However, it is very well balanced and is a very drinkable dram. Coming back to this a couple months later I'm liking it more and more. Value (£60) : 7/10
    • Nose
Lovely syrupy sweet nose. I get sticky toffee, apricots, poached pears, banoffee pie. Huge honey sweetness. Bright lemon and big on vanilla. Peach syrup and boozy sultanas. Loads barley sugar and honeyed cereals. Quite floral as well. Some subtle dried figs and ginger warmth. A touch of milk chocolate. Cooling eucalyptus around the end.
    • Taste
Medium bodied but still quite rich. My first impression is that it seems to has lost that thick syrupy sweetness that was so present on the nose and now has a more winery acidic tone to it. That said, it is still quite pleasant with more toffee, malty cereal and green bananas. It's still has loads of honey. A dollop of cream and lovely milkiness. Green pears and clementines. Caramel milk chocolate. More ginger spice. The alcohol is very well integrated. Extremely easy to drink.
    • Finish
Medium to long in length and slightly drying. Honeyed vanilla and pears return. Barley sugars again. Now a buttery banana note persists. A whiff of creme caramel and barley water. A touch of ginger heat and oak spice alongside cinnamon and clove.

Very tasty whisky, without corners and edges. Good but not excellent, because in the end I lack the complexity.

Pure Madeira barrel. Very intense malt that doesn't seem to be over the top.
But of course it also looks a bit one-dimensional. But very good to drink with well-integrated alcohol.

Easy, soft and very sweet beginning. Honey, toffee, vanilla and lots of light fruits such as apricots, pears and ripe bananas. Makes the impression of syrup. Full malty grain mixes with it. In the background some caramelized popcorn. Great sweet and fruity nose.
    • Taste
      86 86
Again a very sweet and fruity start. Looks a little watery at first.
Then slightly tingling spiciness, light spiciness. A bit of wood, honey, muesli with oat flakes, develops into a creamy, oily fruit syrup with an artificial fruit sweetness that subsides a little. Some cocoa and milk chocolate are forming in the background.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium-long finish, fruity, spicy, slightly woody with spices. Honey sweetness emerges again.

Nose: pear drops, lime sherbet, cloves, oranges and garam masala
Palate: sweet and spicy- lychees, red chilli and mango
    Finish: warming spice
Richer and creamier with water along with stone fruits on the palate

Tasted blind with the North East Whisky Appreciation Society and brand ambassador Ian Allen.

A very soft whisky. My bottle is about 80% full and was opened a month ago. At this point on its journey of oxidation, I get spice and strong artificial fruit flavoring like isoamyl acetate. This "artificial" note is quite forward and the main reason for a lower score. I hope this will improve as it oxidizes and probably won't pour a dram for awhile because of said note.

with water: because of the alcohol strength, the malt does not need water, it is just a little weak in the mouth and finish on the chest anyway. It gets even thinner with a little water, but also shows oranges and citrus notes. I would leave the water out

Conclusion: A beautiful Madeira barrel whisky. His nose convinces me very much, and these Indian spices make him really interesting. But in terms of taste and finish he disappointed me because of the lack of power

lightly burnt caramel, figs, chocolate, behind it the malty basic character of the distillery, overripe pear, subtle Indian spices (yellow curry), sea buckthorn, roi bush
    • Taste
      85 85
soft and almost too soft start, great but not too strong sweetness, cocoa, figs and well balanced oak flavor
    • Finish
      85 85
maximum medium length with intense sweetness, reminiscent of maple syrup, the oak is there, but is hardly bitter at the back
