After the 8 and 10 Glentauchers TWC, of course, I also had to get the 12. The 8er was a bit impetuous and a little one-dimensional for me, but it can't blame him for his 8 years, but is or was a very good whisky. The 10er went a step further in terms of complexity and complacency for my taste and was the winner in the direct blind tasting. I find the 12 on the same level as the 10. The significantly higher alcohol content leaves scope for experimentation. A direct comparison with the 10 series - or maybe even a direct 3 series comparison - becomes interesting. For 85 euros you can definitely recommend the diver. Good thing I ordered two bottles at once. Here you really get a lot of whisky for the money. 90 points from me. Slaintè!
    • Nose
Immediately, a veritable sherry wall unit piles up in the glass. The alcohol is very present with its 62.9% and stings a bit in the beginning. After about a minute, massive sherry notes can be heard. Dark plums, cherries, blackberries, pickled raisins and a hint of pepper are the first candidates. With the addition of water, the alcohol bite disappears immediately and further subtle sherry aromas are revealed and make the glentaucher look a little bit sweeter in the nose. Malt flavors knock on and, together with a hint of oak, complete a very interesting nose.
    • Taste
In the mouth it really gets down to business. The alcohol pushes really well, you could have suspected an infernal burning sensation on the tongue, but none. The oily sweetness from the nose continues in the mouth and initially the sweet sherry flavors like the dark plums and raisins dominate. On the tongue, more spicy wood aromas are also noticeable. I have associations of fresh wood shavings and resin. However, the sweetness of the sherry drones above all. However, I find this dominance much more pleasing than the typical 10-year-old sherry bombs, which you can currently get everywhere in barrel strength.
    • Finish
I would describe the finish as medium. In the beginning, the tongue still sticks to the palate, the flow of saliva on the cheeks is enormous. The sweetness will soon make way for the spicy oak aromas and the palate will quickly become a little drier. The Glentauchers definitely puts you in a good mood for a second sip.

A few drops of water are recommended.

Sherry, dark fruit, some must, chocolate, walnut. Most of it disappears with water and makes you want more.

The alcohol strength can be felt well despite a few drops of water. The sherry gets through well.

The finish is quite long, becomes dry in the mouth after a while. Nutty, or coffee.

    Official notes from TWC

Smell: Delicious dried fruits, aromatic plums, intense sherry notes, ripe black cherries and oranges offer a terrific smell experience.

Taste: The aroma spectacle begins with a lot of power and continues with full-bodied sherry flavors. Wonderful fruit notes of ripe, black cherries and juicy oranges are combined with noble aromas of dark chocolate and aromatic highland coffee. The great taste is harmoniously complemented by spicy wood notes.

Aftertaste: The strong, aromatic notes of coffee and the beautiful spiciness linger in the mouth for a long time.
