The PX puncheon has definitely left its mark here. Not only is it obvious in the colour but also flavour-wise this is quite the PX sherry bomb, giving it lovely treacle sweetness. I find this extremely drinkable and it probably won't last long. Value (£75) : 8/10
    • Nose
On the nose, lovely rich PX influence shines. Big notes of coffee and dark chocolate. Some sticky toffee pudding and Demerara sugar. Figs, dried dates, maraschino cherries and sultanas. Crushed almonds and hazelnuts. A light touch of sulphur. Christmas cake spices with cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cola cubes. Solventy astringency from the ABV but nothing overpowering. A prickle of black pepper warmth as well.
    • Taste
Luscious and velvety texture. The flavours carry over well from the nose. Loads of sweetness of brown sugar, caramel, golden syrup and treacle. Dried red fruits with dates, sultanas, raisins and cherries. Some marzipan and more oak spices. Ginger warmth. Develops into heavy wood shavings leaving behind drying tannins. Unmistakable black coffee. Very enjoyable palate and the ABV is integrated beautifully.
    • Finish
Oh if only the finish was sweeter. That thick sweetness from the initial palate drops off in the finish. Quite oaky here it is giving off some tannin influence with drying oak spice. Dried tobacco leaves. More nuttiness. Not as fruity as the initial palate. More coffee and dark chocolate.
