Wow, what a great surprise! Originally tasted at the Exmoor White Horse, following on from the G&M Port Ellen CC 1982/2010. You'd think that would be a 'death seat', but the Caol Ila went toe-to-toe! Enjoyed it so much that I bought a couple of bottles.

The sulphur and butter in the aroma keeps this from being a 90+ in my books, but I really want to give it 90+! Young, intense and muscular peat with that classic Caol Ila motor oil that makes it one of my favorite distilleries.  I tried this alongside similar aged sherried Port Charlotte`s and Ardbegs and this was my favorite. A wild beast.

"A cask strength Caol Ila 1996 bottled in 2007 from three refill sherry

butts (very unusual for this distillery, which casks more than 99% of

its spirit in ex-bourbon wood). At full strength of just under 60% abv

    this should be great."
