Go with an open mind. U will be pleasantly surprised. This one is quite good.
Packed similar to the previous 2 editions, the tim box is quite flimsy. Mine had some bends. The seller was willing to exchange but all of them had some minor damages.
A limited edition of ‘9000’ bottles at 50.4%. Well it strictly is not limited then. Matured in sherry butts and puncheons and finished in ‘Ruby’ port casks.
Color: Mahogany. Copperish ruby.
Nose: Manuka honey, caramel custard, Very robust. Bursting with flavours. Heavy influence of the port wine cask finish. Red cherries, sweetened custard, raspberries, sultanas, cranberries, and some aniseed. A bit of sugared almonds and cloves but more sweet.
Palate: The distillery character still exists. Not overshadowed by the casks. Loads of cream custard, kiwi fruits with some oak spice and peppercorns in mid palate. Rose petals and sandalwood. The port cask influence dominates the ex-sherry cask influence. Full bodied. Thick and viscous. Vintage feel from its age reflects. Some sweet dates. Milk chocolate. Excellent. Brilliant.
Finish: Long. Juicy. Sugar dusted berries and some rose. Port wine influence shines with that ‘berry’ and ‘honey’ woven finish. Some powdered cardamom flavour lasts.
Its a sweet dessert whisky. Alright. But it is also superb and a terrific vintage dram thats full of robust flavours. Go with an open mind and try it. U would love it.
