    I haven't had many Fettercairn yet, I was impartial and I'm thrilled. The barrel combination with the malt is a great success. Very good PLV for a 16y that is round, set and has a nice complexity

    Nose: Port wine barrel character with a nice chocolate, very full and intense with a light freshness but very set and pleasant. Deep chocolate aroma, cherries, overripe fruits, forest honey, caramel, leather, tobacco and the sherry make themselves felt. There is a lot to discover, the nose makes you want to taste. Very round, but also complex due to the many influences of the three barrels and the chocolate malt. The sherry barrel finally gains the upper hand although the port barrel was initially stronger.

    Flavor: smooth, distinct oak, dark malt, a little reminiscent of stout, caramel, dark chocolate, spices come out with stronger white pepper, cinnamon, currants. From the impression everything was very dark and set.

    Finish: Long, chocolatey finish as it should be, for me it actually looks a little older than the 16 years on the label. Again tobacco, sweetened espresso, the oak sticks to the cheeks, great!

    I got the sample because this bottle is now whirling up a lot of dust and someone wrote in the first notes that he would find it a pimped Fetterken Fior - mhh I had a Dram Fior and was very impressed with it - this one reminds me more of one Blend with grain (especially in the finish) the whisky is made up and has no clear flavors for me.
    I perceive a youth that suggests very worn barrels and where a rather wet barrel has been overlaid to hide it.
    I don't like it so much. I don't drink more than one dram.
    I can only explain the theater around the bottle with the generally extremely high price level of other quality standards and then the color.
    A bottle that will show the inflation point nicely. Old rabbits who still have great old fabric in their closets don't buy this one. And if you're new to your hobby - it's easier to get excited;)

      fresh from the sample bottle into the glass - port wine aromas and overripe almost fermenting fruits, rum pot without the rum

      he had been standing in the bar with the lid on for an hour and the sticky fruit notes had subsided. There is a mineral waxy base note (chalk, stone flour, antique wax for furniture) with a little orange with a lot of oranges and citrus oil - fresh but also slightly pungent, which has nothing to do with alcoholic stinging. There is also a diffuse acidic port wine fruit - to me it looks like cheaper flavored fruit tea or cheap gummy bears.

      I perceive the chocolate note from the 1920s Blenders glass, as gentle as cocoa dust on a tiramisu, the orange flavors also look more delicious here and there is some tobacco and leather.

      I do not like the gummy bear note at all - it looks unclean, artificial, slightly fermented - not a pleasure for me - the mineral base note also does not quite suit my taste
      I would rate it better from the 1920s glass - only I can't drink from it.

      the approach is very gentle - he does not like sips that are too small. First sweet, the fruitiness remains rather reserved. If I chew it, stone flour takes over, ground citrus drops have the upper hand, you could find ginger, for me that's more than enough citrus oil with a little white pepper.

      It is completely bipolar - the sherry and port wine influences whisper their aromas to me - while pepper, ginger, citrus oil and a certain alcoholic note when chewing on my tongue are very loud and intrusive.

      It reminds me on the palate of the entire aroma profile (except for the mineral one) very much of the Nomad Outland Whisky - only the Nomad is more tasty, more pleasing, has no bad notes and costs a third.
      They both have the same body - tasty but thin.

      warms, burns minimal but is still in the frame because I chewed for a very long time and he could therefore accumulate a lot.
      Dark chocolate - more like baked cocoa, leather, light bitter walnut shell

      With the last sip and without having analyzed the last sip large, I had to subtract one more point. The alcohol had so numbed me at the beginning that I didn't notice the bitter chocolate in the finish - but it gets more with every sip - you have to like it.

    In the nose I immediately had the impression of a fresh sea breeze ... funny, but very pleasant. The aromas of the nose are confirmed in the mouth, the finish is long and pleasant. Overall not very complex, but very balanced and tasty. The whisky opens up clearly in the glass after a while.

      sweet, strong, honey, becoming dry, slightly hot, plums, pepper, old kitchen cupboard, strong chocolate, very slightly bitter but not unpleasant, espresso, peppermint, a bit sticky on the palate, tobacco and leather slowly get through

      long, dry plums and old wood, tobacco

    For now, I would like to give my first impressions:

    My first impression is excellent: all three barrel types have left their mark and harmonize wonderfully with the fresh, fruity character of the distillery. Additions to follow ...

    Not a bad malt. I cannot fully understand the great fanfare around the malt. So I'm not sad that I don't have a bottle of it.

      On the nose berries like blueberries. Some rotten grapes. The fruits are sweet and sour. Unfortunately, they also have an artificial undertone and look fake. With a little time in the glass they look less artificial. In addition grain notes. Dry "sharp" wood. A certain freshness like citrus fruits. Additional tart notes such as tobacco and leather.

      At first relatively mild and sweet. Forest honey. Fruit tea with sugar candy. But then a noticeable tingling or a sharpness, which does not look so elegant. Then dark chocolate pudding and a dessert wine.
    • Finish
      The fruits fade away and become more acidic. Musty wood. Chocolate.

      Got a ginger note right there and tap the Fettercairn. Light fruits, relatively mild, alcohol only subtly in the background, cereals, raisins, sometimes a nice change to the blatant sherry bombs - a very light muff note gives it even more complexity.

      Oh, the alcohol is a bit more noticeable here, tastes like the nose, no surprise here, a little sweeter in the start.
      Then it gets a bit bitter, banana is still there at the end.
      Not boring this part.

    smooth, round, tasty, tasty.

      Port wine, very ripe blueberries / blackberries, Feuerzangenbowle, raisins, crushed vanilla pods
    • Taste
      supple, sugared wild berries with cinnamon, a hint of white pepper, cocoa, sherry, subtle oak notes without bitterness.

      Cocoa, dark honey notes, port wine, subtle oak, a little cherry stone aroma, medium length.

    I am a big fan of Fiors. This malt goes one step further.
    Mouthfeel: Very pleasant and smooth, moderately difficult
    Smell: raisins / dried fruit, a hint of vanilla, light sweetness, sponge cake, oak,
    Flavor: dark chocolate, oak and tobacco, leather, dried fruit, light sweetness, fruity berries,
    Finish: chocolate, raisins, some oak and a slight sweetness in the interplay. Nice and long and harmonious
    Conclusion: A great malt with a perfect mouthfeel. Very good PLV of a complex malt, which certainly contains a few older barrels.
