Airfix glue, here I come! Back in the mists of time, the classic Old No. 7 was my first review. Does double filtration through charcoal make this Tennessee whiskey any better? Well, the nose is less rough and almost pleasant with notes of caramelized popcorn, syrup and nail polish. Is 'diabetic' a valid descriptor? Sugary, oily and slightly minty, the taste is rather one-dimensional with fresh oak spices, the expected spiritiness and a quickly fading finish. Granted, Gentleman Jack is a step up from the basic, mass-produced Jack Daniel's - but it's a small one.

Mash bill: 80% corn, 12% malted barley, 8% rye. Double charcoal-mellowed: once before maturing and once after. Aged in charred American oak casks. Thick fast primary legs. Thin slow secondary legs. Trailing droplets. Sippable mellow American whiskey: moreish.
    • Nose
Sweet: confectionery, vanilla, caramel, honey, maple syrup. Fruity: cherry, banana. Smoky: char. Woody: virgin American oak, green oak, toasted oak. Spicy: baking spices, cinnamon, mint. Cereal: hay, corn, bread note. Herbal: pine, vegetal. Nutty: cola. Body: smooth, mellow. Floral: potpourri, fragrant. Feints: glue note, tobacco note. Oily: butter note. Water thins down the nose, brings up herbal notes.
    • Taste
Sweet: caramel, vanilla, toffee, confectionery, maple syrup. Fruity: fresh fruit, stone fruit, banana. Spicy: baking spices, white pepper, salt, mint, cinnamon. Herbal: vegetal notes. Woody: charred virgin American oak, toasted oak. Feints: tobacco. Simple: smooth, mellow. Oily. Water extends the development.
    • Finish
Medium. Sweet: confectionery. Spicy: white pepper, salt, baking spices. Fruity: candied fruit: cherry. Woody: charred oak, oak tannins. Water turns up the sweetness, spiciness, and smoothness.

    S 7
Limited character but much better if drink neat than the normal No.7 as it's smoother and with more balanced spice. This one is double mellowed - filtered through charcoal twice - before casked & before bottled.

    - Vanilla
    - Running maple syrup
    - Smooth charcoal

    P 22
    - Mellow vanillic sweetness
    - Spiced wood beneath

Well, they say that Gentleman Jack was Sinatra's favourite whiskey. It won't be mine, but I am holding it in very hiugh esteem.

Nose: bananas, toffee, oatmeal, orange, cinnamon
    Taste: similar, but also nutty
Finish: fresh, soft, well-balanced, nutty, woody

  12. Sebastian113 scored this whisky 80 points Newbie

Absolutely surprising how smooth and drinkable this is.
Definitely nothing too fancy going on flavor wise. Not challenging what so ever.
But it is pleseant to drink as hell.

    • Nose
      73 73
Very mild nose with a hint of glue and some apple and "soft" american oak in the background. Apparently a lot of corn in the mash bill. Pretty one-dimensional
    • Taste
      71 71
mild and mellow, creamy, without any corners or edges. Oak and spice only very hinted at
    • Finish
      68 68
briefly with a mini-hint of spiciness and then the alcohol remains in addition to the sweetness. Extremely soft and at the end again a glue note.

    JD evening from memory:
    Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack 40% 15864
    Jack Daniels Rye 45% 108542
    Jack Daniel's Single Barrel 45% 121470
    Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Strength 18-2757 5.8.18 64.5% 121450
The gentleman was very watery, the Rye not roggig, the SB OK (but only a My better than the normal No7), the SBBS is then fun, bold, sweet, sardonic.

      short finish;

  24. coldsun scored this whisky 75 points Expert Senior

Good extension of classic Jack Daniel's Old No. 7. Smoother, sweeter, more elegant and tasty. The disadvantage is the very short finish. And even empty dram loses flavor quickly. But keeps classic style! The worthy drink!
    • Nose
      78 78

Much softer and rounder than the Old No. 7 - but also a whole corner more expensive. For me, the price - performance ratio is not right, because you can enjoy this whiskey barely pure.
    • Nose
Much gentler and more pleasant in the nose than the Old No.7, with corn sweetness and burnt caramel. Even the gentleman has this beautiful smell of a chimney.
    • Taste
Starts soft and buttery with cereal sweets, vanilla, cocoa and burnt caramel. But then gets more restless. A longer maturation time would be desirable.
    • Finish
Ends with light bitterness, scorching and a bit of pungency.

No bite, no special, interesting aspects. Difficult to write anything; too much filtration is too much of a good thing. Even the Winter Jack tastes better. Yes, just laugh ...

Very pleasant, but there's something about the oiliness of it that doesn't quite hang together with the citrus.
    • Nose
Bicycle oil, shortcrust pastry, sharp lemon and grapefruit, maybe a raisiny note too.
    • Taste
Citrus and sugar. Its a strange sensation that only seems to inhabit
certain areas of the tongue. Elsewhere it just doesn't seem to do
anything other than create a neutral oily coating. Bicycle oil again.
    • Finish
Medium length with sweet grape and grapefruit.

I can hardly dream of a Jack Daniel's bottle that would meet my expectations, even slightly.
    • Nose
Burnt sugar, caramel, a little bit of vanilla. TONS OF GLUE!
    • Taste
Harsh, harsh and glue, I completely unsatisfied with the taste, need to add a drop of water and keep it oxidized for about half an hour. Don't leave it for hours it tends to die.
    • Finish
Meh, short to medium and not intense at all.

A slightly richer and more restrained interpretation of Jack Daniel's.
    • Nose
Soft but insistent. Sweet then dry. Burnt brown sugar and charcoal. Slightly less overt charcoal-phenol than the regular Jack Daniel's.
    • Taste
Smooth. Very toasty. Dryish start, but becoming surprisingly sweet. Spicy. Syrupy background.
    • Finish
      Cinnamon. Lemons.

Well worth the extra, Gentleman Jack is charcoal-mellowed twice, before

product. Packaged in a smart Monogram-esque bottle.
