- Nantou 58.9%, 2014 distilled, 5yo. Smws 138.3 - 'Trick or Treat'. Pale yellow. Aroma has slight lemon peel, slightly papery oak, some toasted wood, seared twigs. No real smoke to start. Over time more burnt spices and tar. Oily body. Taste is salty and peated, very pleasant level of smoke, softest lemon peel notes, burnt wood. Reminds me of a good Ardbeg but harder-edged. Citrussy. Burnt. Good 3.7/88
- SMWS Tasting Notes: We were in for a treat as a wonderful sweet smoke greeted the Panel like langoustines being barbequed over a birch wood fire and then being served with aioli. What a surprise awaiting us on the palate too; hot and grubby - still sweet but now more like eating a marshmallow that fell into the ash. With the addition of water we were sitting at the harbour wall in a fishing village in the East Neuk of Fife with the occasional wave creating plenty of sea spray as we prepared a green salad with an oily vinegar dressing and heavily barbequed croutons, bacon bits and peat smoked mackerel.
