beautiful dram, especially for that price range.
    • Nose
      92 92
ripe maritime notes, salt, very round and beautiful, some mineral notes, bit herby but rather floral, decent sweetness, some fresh cherries on top of ripe red apple, could smell it all night long
    • Taste
      90 90
maritime sweetness, white and black pepper, oily mouthfeel, some herbs pop up, very nice dram!
    • Finish
      86 86
rather dry finish with some woodnotes, bits of ginger, almost like gin after a few seconds, preferred it before i swallowed but still very nice :)

This cannot be a Scapa, because it's peated. So you get a 18 year old Highland Park for very reasonable money.
    • Nose
      90 90
Floral, Herbs, Honey, Lemon, Peach, Spices, Tanins, Salt, Smoke. It needs time and a little bit water to get this impressions. This is a indeed a very interesting nose.
    • Taste
      89 89
It's fruity, sweet and sour, spicy (ginger, pepper) and definitely smoky. The casks did a good job.
    • Finish
      88 88
Fruity in the beginning, then nutty, spicy and mild tannins finally.

Not a bad whisky, especially in our time - this age is not big money.
The nose looks forward to a rich taste, but unfortunately the age is poorly balanced in taste. Perhaps it was not necessary to reduce ... Spicy-salty and mineral taste with a good aftertaste of oak and pastries.
Overall good but no clear character. As it is, everything is smooth.

2021-04-25: Price / performance is right
    • Nose
      87 87
sweet, marzipan, orange sweetness, Jaffa cake, chocolate, flowery, red apple, peach, vanilla
    • Taste
      86 86
dry, almost dusty start, peppery, orange notes in harmony with strong wood aromas, slightly smoky
    • Finish
      86 86
      spicy and nutty, rather short

SO light. There is nothing to dislike, but almost nothing else happening. I admire A.D.R. for bottling the 18 y/o straight. But it highlights why H.P. is a rubbish whisky - there is nothing here . This is why H.P have to use caramel, massive cask influence and huge 'viking' marketing.

I will continue to buy ADR whisky - but not H.P
    • Nose
VERY light, barely there. Distinct and uniquely H.P. couldn't be anything else. Sweet, cardboard, faintly new make, herrings, old hay.
    • Taste
Indistinct, even a slight touch of water and it is lost. And yet - very well balanced, I love the deft touch of peat - so light but still there
    • Finish
      Blink and it's gone.
