  1. LiquidThoughts scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Brilliantly balanced with the %, admittedly not the most complex, especially on the nose, but brilliantly full and intense, reminds me of the best rare malts.
    • Nose
Almost frighteningly reserved, lots of polished sandalwood and oak, furniture polish only subtle, thank God, papaya pickled in Manuka honey, guava, mango, oiled leather, candied ginger, some sour cherries
    • Taste
Papaya, manuka honey, mango, guava, cherries, a lot of nice ginger in a lot of honey, oiled leather, eucalyptus, very intense and yet not burning, a bit like the Rare Malts (I don't think there are any Lochsides of them?), plum, cinnamon, something Chamomile, great cocoa and milk chocolate
    • Finish
Chamomile tea, ginger, cocoa, cinnamon, plum, cherry, long

    A very beautiful Lochside.
The first nose was difficult, on the solvent. But after aeration, the exotic takes the front, and it's really nice.

Quite powerful nose, on the solvent. These Lochside 1981 Cadenheads are definitely not the best integrated.
      Fortunately, they have other qualities.
Green pineapple, eat, papaya. Melon, lemon, green apple and lychee.
Fruit is prominent, followed by pepper, wood, light smoke and white chocolate.
A little green, but the ventilation does it a lot of good.
    • Taste
      91 91
In the mouth it is soft, creamy.
We have milk chocolate, pepper, currant, wood.
The fruit is more camphorated, on cherries, peaches, mango, pineapple.
A very light peat and smoke.
    • Finish
      90 90
Long finish on melon, passion fruit, tangerine.
We have pepper, a light smoke and camphor.

Wow wow wow so fruity, this is just cracking stuff. Probably in my top 10 whiskies of the last 10 years I have reviewed. Shame I cannot afford another bottle. If only that finish would last longer.
    • Nose
      91 91
      tropical fruit overdrive, mangos, lychees
    • Taste
      93 93
silky soft, oodles of warm spicy sherry
    • Finish
      89 89
medium (just); very pleasant aftertaste - quite exotic and eastern. Sultanas

    Maltstock 2017

A great sherried dram from a closed distillery.

    Thanks Teun van Wel!!
