So far I haven't had a particularly good cognac ripe. So I'm not particularly looking forward to it now. Somehow the two spirits don't go together for me, as beautiful as they are singular. In the nose you can clearly see the Kilchoman, slightly dirty, a bit musty but always nice and maritime. In addition, slightly sour, lime zest. I don't notice much about the cognac here. Nice Islay smoke in the mouth, strong and impetuous. Dirty, oily but also a bit youthful, metallic and artificially sweet with an artificial banana aroma, which I often feel when barrels are filled too young / early. Unfortunately, the slightly metallic finish remains on the tongue. Overall decent bottling, I hardly notice the influence of Cogance, luckily maybe. Overall not a high-flyer, there were significantly better Kilchoman and also in this age range. In addition, exaggerated in terms of price.

    I really like it.
    Young, stormy, typically Islay.
    • Nose
Heavy smoke. Salty sea breeze. Good portion of beach debris and iodine. Behind it sweet malt and sweet dough. Reminds me of a breakfast break on Port Ellen Beach. Great Islay Dram!
    • Taste
Powerful start. Spicy and aromatic oak. Ashy smoky. Profuse salivation. Tart cocoa. Delicious dram!
    • Finish
Quite light, but still aromatically smoky. Is getting cuter.

Never liked cognac cask maturation. Not even a Kilchoman can save this.

A young bottled kilchoman with a slightly different finish. You notice the youth in particular in the nose, in which you can actually make out a little new make behind the chocolate. This doesn't harm the overall quality, but a slightly longer bourbon barrel maturation would certainly not have been a disadvantage for the whisky.

Unusually chocolatey nose for a kilchoman - and behind it you can even make out a little new make. Fresh yeast dough, green apple, green branches. Forest honey and caramel. Smoke can only be seen on the second nose.
    • Taste
      86 86
Fresh and strong start with Tropi Frutti flavors: pineapple, kiwi, green apple. Warm tin, cold smoke with lemon aroma. Ashy and dry. On the tongue, the distillery character prevails against the Congnac finish. Gets dry quickly, but remains fruity. A little pepper and grated nutmeg are added and act as a counterpoint to the sweet fruit notes. Coffee powder and toffee.
    • Finish
      85 85
Apart from a long-lasting smoke note, a relatively short finish. Green apple and some pear compote, blackberry jelly, honey.
