In the event of nuclear apocalypse and if this was all there was left to drink it wouldn't be too bad. It's quite nice, not quite excellent but definitely acceptable, especially in this day and age of ever decreasing quality of expensive single malts this one does have the distinct taste of quality spirit and sagacious maturation to it.
On the nose there is that cola note you get with some sherry cask whiskies, and I read elsewhere that it reminds someone of Hibiki, I can see that, but it's a little drier and has more slightly bitter tea on the finish.
It's ok, just a touch dry...... it will probably improve with aeration providing the nuclear fallout doesn't contaminate it too much.
ONE DAY LATER
It's now much better. The nuclear fallout in our atmosphere must impart a special smoothness to the malt as it is now very fruity with particular notes of calvados and all of the offending isotopes of dry bitter wood have vanished like the hot blast of a quick nuclear detonation.
My batch is the 2019 version. I posted a review in the 2020 by mistake but it got a like and I don't have the heart to remove it now.
