Whisky Reviews for Deanston 18-year-old

2 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.89 points

  1. Astrid scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

This malt leaves me a little bit divided. On the one hand, the 18 years bring real added value compared to younger Deanstons, multifaceted fruit and high-quality spices. On the other hand, there are some disturbing elements, such as the inadequately integrated alcohol or a touch too much bitterness for my taste in places. Still, it was fun to get to know him and I'm looking forward to many more (old) Deanstons.
    • Nose
      87 87
sweet with vanilla, with some oak wood, fortune cookie and grain, caramel, set citrus notes and fresh dates, bread, cinnamon and velvety spices, moist cotton, oily and salty balsamic vinegar, banana, almonds and coconut, honey, mango, hints of plum and raisins as well as apricots, some pineapple and melon, occasionally alcohol is noticeable, graphite
    • Taste
      86 86
Sparkling spice and oak wood, barley malt and ears of grain, delicate bitterness, caramel, fresh citrus aromas, almonds, banana, honey, salty and slightly mineral accents, mango, cinnamon, here the alcohol is also a bit restless, pineapple and orange, slightly earthy and peppery with brown sugar, vanilla, some apricot and blueberry jam
    • Finish
      85 85
Barley malt and blossom honey, oak wood with pleasantly lasting flavor, slightly dry and warming, hay and clover, almonds, hints of apricot and orange, a touch of pepper, subtle bitterness with cocoa and sulfur, vanilla

  2. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A lot of wood, spicy and aromatic and the Deanston can also show itself. Successful older standard.
    • Nose
a lot of barrel, vanilla flavoring, almost like bourbon. Sweet and spicy, especially tart notes of American oak. A few yellow fruits, more malty and a hint of smoke, could also be wood.
    • Taste
Vanilla, caramel, coffee, tart oak, clove, pepper.
    • Finish
Rather short, yellow fruits a nice sweetness, but above all tart and spicy oak.
