decent, a little unusual, kinda old school. two casks of blended malt vatted. it seems like a highland malt to me, but supposedly not. 6/10
    • Nose
a little ben nevis-y, apricots, quite creamy, plasticine, concentrated orange juice, mixed citrus peels and a little nougat
    • Taste
light fruit, apricot. seems a little smoky a first, coal smoke? mineral, fresh linens, bio washing powder but not overpowering floral. medium finish, a little bloomed milk chocolate, sweetness dropping rapidly, flattish

Mhhh, something complex comes into the nose: lemon oil, cake batter, earthy-peaty, fresh tobacco leaves, chamomile, fermented fruits. Subtle, interwoven and very unusual. Delicate medicinal smoke. Somehow mysterious and not really tangible, but extremely exciting ...

Strong, dense, oily on the palate! Much more powerful and dominant than the nose suggested. Perfect drinking strength with almost 48%. Roasted barley, very malty, brown sugar, caramelized onions, overripe exotic fruits. Waxy, salty, creamy and mouth-filling. Really nice oldschool (old Clynelish / Bowmore?). Again without a clear profile, but wonderfully complex and a little crazy. Really big tennis!

Long, musty, leathery finish. Herbal and grassy notes linger for a long time.

With a little clearer direction and a little more sustainability and finesse in the finish, it would have easily gone over 90 for me. Only a few small, slightly perfumed, restless notes bring this absolute top blend to earth.

Tremendously exciting for everyone who is looking for the unusual, but without fancy barrel experiments.

    Not my thing
    • Nose
      86 86
Fruity light fruits but a minimum of wet cardboard. Floral with herbs and flowers
    • Taste
      80 80
At first it goes well, but then comes something strongly perfumed {is there an adjective? ) lavender ... weird. Reminds me a lot of fettercairn in the 1st fill bourbon
    • Finish
      69 69
      Here comes the perfume

If only the nose could be saved to the taste and the finish. Then this would be in the stars for me. Yes if. Although I have to admit, that the rest is not to be poured away. But the expectation that arose with me during the first nosing was very high.
A plus, regardless of taste, is the transparency of the malts used. In my opinion, it should always be like this or even better. Full review (german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2020/08/26/chapter-7-outturn-tasting/

Fruity, pears and apricots. A wiff of smoke.
    • Taste

Rubber, turns to apricot jam. Sour and bitter. Soapy and waxy.
    • Finish
      74 74
Long! Pears and vanilla. Smokey. Caramel at the end.

"Anecdotes are our short whisky anthology stories. They are one-off and unique, from rare finds we come across through our whisky journey. When a fabulous batch of 4 casks of a very intriguing blended malt landed in our warehouse, we chose 2 casks for vatting our first Anecdote.

This blended malt contains 17% Laphroaig, 20% HIghland Park and the rest of 63% of the malts come from Speyside's famous distilleries. It's been a good long marriage of 24 years in bourbon barrels that provides fruitiness, a touch of maritime notes and subtle peat in one perfect dram.

Nose: A delicate fruit salad with notes of dried apricots, custard and a touch of sweet smoke.

Palate: Croissants, slightly salted fudge, apricot jam, oranges, plums and fried sugar.

Finish: Tinned pears, cornflakes and slightly smoky sweetness."
