Please leave the whiskey standing 20 minutes after pouring it out! Then really develops!
    • Nose
      89 89
As the first, nice thick sherry flows into the nose, deep and intense, a lot of aroma, amazingly fruity, sweetness, more than expected with a fine nutty note and marzipan. Of course also intensive seasoning, some pepper and pastries. I was practically surprised that I couldn't see any sulfur until I noticed that I had poured my glass about 20 minutes before, the whiskey comes fresh into the glass, a fine note of sulfur is clearly recognizable. But that makes the malt very exciting.
    • Taste
      90 90
In terms of taste, the sweetness predominates with me, in addition to this beautiful, slightly dirty sherry, dark chocolate, intense spice, completely takes over the palate. In addition, a little burned-out barrel, a fine sulfuric impact with a little alcohol. Here and there comes orange with a wooden touch, overall very oily feeling. With water, however, it does not get better, only weaker, so enjoy it pure. The palate teases beautifully and is a lot of fun!
    • Finish
      91 91
Intense, dirty sherry finish with sweetness and wood.

Very good for a blend - a little water is good for him, but he doesn't want to open completely
    • Nose
      87 87
At first surprisingly sharp in the nose - after an appropriate period of time clearly sour cherry compote, rum pot with fruits
    • Taste
      88 88
reminiscent of cognac, red grapes, hot sherry - with water it becomes more pleasing and creamy, dry with a strong wood note, which is also due to him at this age
    • Finish
      86 86
      medium length with red fruits

No idea what is supposed to be overrepresented in the match and justifies such a previous assessment. Classic Speysider from Edrington, I guess .... very close to various teaspooned Mac that I had in my glass up to now .. all very similar with outliers up and down, but never more than a few points. Nice dram with (thank goodness) long finish.

Edrington Blend according to a shop that sold it.
Retail price in April 2020 around 250€.

Bought two bottles for sharing and immediately after opening the bottles I regret it.

Hopefully some of the other participants can enjoy it, for me its one of the worst drams I ever had in my glass, maybe the worst yet considering its high price.

The smell of sulphur is bad.
There are some nice sherry notes in the background, but they are dominanted by the omnipresent sulphur in a very bad way.
    • Taste
      30 30
The taste is somehow even worse. Bitterness comes through and starts a battle against the dominating sulphur.
But the sulphur strikes back mercilessly and now obliterates any redeeming qualities left for me.
    • Finish
      20 20
      Unfortunately quite long.

I'm glad to tried this whisky. Heavy sherry notes with dried fruits and chocolate.

I really cannot understand the very negative ratings. You probably had a bad bottle - It is a really nice blended malt.
As it is an Edrington Blend it is very likely that we have a Macallan blended with a Highland Park here which were the most used ingredients at the time aroung 1985.

After 3-4 times I have to admit that the sulphur is really not enjoyable anymore - still a good dram but not something where I would buy a bottle from. Just 80 points instead of the previous 90 now.

I don't get the 33 points rating! This one does need time indeed. But as it develops it gets better and better. A very nice blend.

Red fruits, Sherry, sweetness and pastries
    • Taste

Oh yeah baby! Very fine old school sherry! Dark chocolate, leather, creamy and some spices. Warm and intense with some wood.
    • Finish
      87 87
Surprisingly the wood predominates but there is also some sherry left to go down with it.

A very neat nose at first, but slowly hints of sulphur rise up from the glas. Straight forward on the palate - the alcohol is not to well integrated. Among some red fruits and leather, the sulphur gets more and more dominant. The aftertaste is also dominated by sulphur - also some tobacco, leather and red fruits find its way into the aftertaste. But sadly the sulphur dominating.

So if sulphur is not your taste - beware of this expression. In my view its well not worth the 250+ euros asked for it!
