Whisky Reviews for Caol Ila Cl13 ElD

7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.06 points

  1. LeChiffre scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Really good young Caol Ila who looks older than 9 years. Powerful and not looking youthful. The flavors are wonderfully coordinated and exciting. Successful bottling!
    • Nose
medium-strong, slightly greasy smoke note; a beautiful sweetness lies behind it; fresh citrus notes lie on the nose; spicy maritime notes; a touch of oak
      - beautiful typical Caol Ila nose
    • Taste
powerful oily attack; great citrus notes again; there is also a distinct (sugary) sweetness; peppery seasoning; in addition a nicely integrated maritime smoke note with a hint of iodine; Oak
    • Finish
long; sweet and spicy; peppery; salty-maritime; Oak; ashy smoke remains in the mouth for a long time

  2. GlenSikkes did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    Tasting Notes by producer;

A spicy Caol Ila, made up of whisky distilled between 2010 and 2011, and aged in oak hogsheads and ex-sherry butts for more than nine years. Doing justice to the true essence of Caol Ila, this whisky brings together fiery and coastal elements with a generous helping of soft smoke. 1060 bottles produced.

Spicy pork on the BBQ with notes of smoked paprika, cracked black pepper and lime juice. Hot chocolate with chilli powder and caramelised hazelnuts, accented by sea-spray freshness.

Slightly oily with spices, green pepper and rustic salt-and-pepper crisps. A sweetness develops, with dusty chocolate and freeze-dried raspberries wrapped in wood smoke.

The spice lingers, accompanied by a dry, salty tang.

  3. Dre73 scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Pleasant dram, peaty but not too hefty, also room for sweet, salty and fruity notes. Getting more intense in time.

Full scent, nice peat, sweet smoke, bacon, some saltiness. Fake leather. Citrus.
    • Taste
      86 86
Powerful, sparkling. Fruity and smoky, some creamy mouthfeel. Milk chocolate. A touch of bitterness.
    • Finish
      87 87
More smooth now, fruity, sweet smoke, some salty touch. Later on it gets more intense. Pretty long finish. Also a bitter edge.

  4. Archer scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

If only a - young - Octomore, who, with his what white how many ppm on the label hits the plaster, would come across as intensely peat-smoky as this CI13 - they put a really great Caol Ila on the bottle here, this nose is good for putting it in .

Cold and herbaceous peat smoke, warm tar paper, seaweed, machine oil and a harbor basin when there is no wind - I love it. There is also a bit of the Wadden Sea at low tide, as well as lime slices and kiwi, cloves and bay leaves. A bitter sweetness pervades, mixes very nicely with the peat smoke, which has now, after a while, lost its herbal note. Nougat, toffee, caramel and white coffee.
    • Taste
      88 88
Powerful start with a good load of peat smoke and spice, but also with sweet fruit. The smoke note can be clearly seen, but it does not kill the whisky. Lime slices, tangerines and green apples give it a fresh and tart sweetness. Slightly herbaceous and spicy with whole cloves, nutmeg, pepper, bay leaves. Dried seaweed, a freshly paved road.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium-long, clear and very intense note of peat smoke, limes and tangerines, cloves, pepper, a hint of Black Forest ham.

    Water makes the palate!

Nose: Pear and apple juice, ripe pear gum drops, some tropical white and green fruits, ropes on a dock, sea breeze and seaweed, driftwood and dried seaweed beach fire. Crusted salted roast fish. The smoke is not overwhelming, and sometimes it smells a bit like an Australian sauv blanc. With water the same

Palate: sugar, cinnamon spice, wood smoke, cracked pepper, medicinal. With water the smoke dominates, gets less sweet, a little more powdery

Finish: long on unripe pear skins sugar and smoke. With water more citrus rinds than pear.
