[January, 2017]  High quality old Cadenhead stuff - I am always flabbergasted when I try a new one of these old (and long gone) dumpy bottles.

The typical Pittyvaich profile is clearly recognizable - you will identify this distillery on the spot in a blind tasting. By the way, this one does not need any water - nevertheless it is a good swimmer (it gets much smoother and rounder and of course, even more sippable - but a little less interesting as all the peakes and surprises are gone, too).
    • Nose
      92 92
The nose is excellent on home-grown fruits and sweet sherry flavours, complex and deep diving. One to sniff and explore for hours.
    • Taste
      90 90
On the palate a warm, tongue-coating and sweet, quite thick sherry and liquoreuse profile takes place with some recognisable wood influences (that provide a firm structure to all other aromas).
    • Finish
      88 88
The finish is not that strong, but still very good. Medium length and not drying out. I really like this stuff.

A very interesting whisky from this unbeloved closed distillery. Not that complex but with big character though.
    • Nose
Quite alcoholic and woody to start with. Christmas cake. Blackcurrants and blackberries. Raspberry liqueur. Roasted nuts. Raisins. Moccha. Leathery notes. Whiff of smoke.
    • Taste
Very strong again. Lots of tanninnes. Hints of sherry. Prunes and orange peel. Nutmeg. Dark chocolate. Espresso coffee. Tobacco. Cloves and aniseed at the background.
    • Finish
Long. Slightly bitter. Liquorice. Dry at the end.

What a syrupy whisky with plenty of extract, easily drinkable without water.
    • Nose
      90 90
Sherry, forest fruits, spicy oak, raisin, prune, antique leather and milk coffee.
    • Taste
      91 91
Powerful, syrupy. Big sherry. Tannic oak. Ginger and nutmeg. Orange peel, forest fruit jam and tobacco.
    • Finish
      90 90
      Long, bittersweet.

Excellent stuff, just what I like at 58% no need for water.
    • Nose
Stewed prunes, raisin, plum, some orange notes and a little chocolate, waffles.
    • Taste
Very rich and syrupy on  orange and blackberry liqueur, salted caramel and a faint beef note
    • Finish
      Quite long on stewed fruits
