This is my fourth sample of this, having tried it with friends as well as following a tour of the distillery with my family and finally at an airport, but the first time actually being able to sit down and rate it. 30ml sample.
Mid tone yellow with a slight hint of something darker.
Aroma is strongly fruity ... dragonfruit, something like gooseberry and rhubarb pie, cranberries certainly, pomegranate. Over time the berries seem a little sour and there's red wine tannin, medicinal notes, some rust. Good fruity aroma on the whole.
Taste is very relaxed, ‘creamy’, quite refined, reminds me a bit of the cleaner Scotch spirits like Brackla and Spey. Again fruited tart, clove, mulled wine, sweet cherry pie, more clove into the finish. maybe the impressions are a little too 'sweet' for my personal taste.
Blind I’d be thinking there might be some red wine casks - maybe there’s a ‘secret ingredient’! Still, it’s got plenty going on and plenty to enjoy.
Lots of flavour but it’s not quite my ideal sort of flavour profile. It’s good, well-constructed but just not really my sort of thing - sometimes you can appreciate good quality without necessarily loving the end result, and this is one of those times for me. I could see some people really loving it and I would understand why, but it’s not the sort of thing I'd want on my shelf personally. 3.375/81
