Taste A little pineapple , vanilla , biscuit, a little bit hahaha nuance similar to

    Finish Slightly Spicy Jalapeño

Something sweet rather than a distinctive flavor. A friend who does the basics of bourbon.

  3. Kvarstein scored this whisky 87 points Newbie

Enjoyed neat in a Glencairn. Rested for a couple of minutes with a couple drops of water.

    Nose
Almonds, marzipan and sweet berries. After the initial impressions I get more wet oak and even more sweet berries - black currants to be exact. I also get a lot of sugary and malt sweetness which is further enhanced along with fruity notes when adding a few drops of water.

    Palate
Malty sweetness, sweet lemon, apples and refined sugar, just a lot of sweetness! I also get something reminiscent of watermelon. The booze is a bit more apparent on the palate than on the nose. Leading into the finish I get hints of winegums and fresh bananas.

    Finish
The finish is medium to long and very mellow. Hints of nuts and almonds, and also a citrusy note. I can also detect a faint hint of licorice.

    Conclusion
A fantastic highland scotch. This is very sweet and friendly both in taste and on the wallet. This is a perfect easy-sipper while also having its fair share of more complex notes if you want to take a deeper dive into it.

My Deanston experiences were, most of the times, too light and almost anonymous. It felt like there isn’t much character in their spirit and wants to be too neutral. It was part of a BFYB set I bought so let’s just give it another try.
    • Nose
This gives a good nose. It offers quite a tropical and citrus fruits bomb. Fresh pineapple, lychees, green unripe melon and white grapes. In the background some fruits but also rather sharp. Not in an alcoholic way but a little like restless young fruit.
    • Taste
Canned pineapple on juice, again melon and more mild spices now but also dry oak. It feels a little tart on the palate. Alcohol is rather prominent. It does handle water like a champ and it does get better by adding that.
    • Finish
Medium/short Alcoholic driven finish with more fruits like stated above and some licorice. Rather standard and not surprising nor very characterful

This, once again, points out my experience with Deanston. Obviously it’s just a personal opinion. Some will like it, some don’t. Somehow me and Deanston are not a match made in heaven.

Solid Highlander. Does everything right, but does not excel at anything. Will probably not offend anybody.

with a little water it is much sweeter in taste, more honey.
If something weakens in the finish, you have to like the spicy one.
    • Nose
Vanilla, citrus, a little "lacquer", fruity and sweet
    • Taste
at first mild, sweet, then a slight burning. You don't notice the 46%
    • Finish
slightly oak, very spicy, smoke in the background completely removed

Heather honey and cereal milk. Granola and kettle corn. Tasted as part of the Master of Malt Instagram tasting, this was my favourite of the three.
