tastes and is round and good in itself, but is neither extremely complex nor unique. Good whisky
    • Nose
      80 80
sweet! dark dry fruits (plums, raisins) and peach. Good, but one-dimensional.
    • Taste
      84 84
very round, supple. Sweetness and fruit from the sherry cask at the beginning, then definite oak (malty and bitter notes, vanilla). Strong!
    • Finish
      80 80
Surprisingly medium length, but sweetness goes quickly and a spice remains

  2. whisky_garage scored this whisky 83 points Expert Junior

Aroma: open, sweet. Honey, vanilla, ripe pears, apricots, spices, cinnamon, light perfumery.
Taste: sweet - peppery. Vanilla, perfume note, ripe apricots, honey theme, spices, apricot kernel, pepper, wood.
Finish: longer than average, sweet pepper-ginger. Honey note, vanilla, ginger, wood.
Conclusion: Simple, unpretentious, with a rather meager palette of aromas and tastes. Marsala Wood Finish from the same series turned out to be a more interesting specimen.
Despite the simplicity, the whisky turned out to be comfortable and tasty.

The acid mentioned bothers me less now, I only notice it marginally. From my point of view it is a shame that the alcohol is not so well integrated and the American oak occasionally storms a bit wildly through the village. Otherwise it could be a solid standard.
    • Nose
Vanilla, at first the alcohol stings a little, then fortune cookie with a touch of nougat, honey and beeswax, some raisins, banana, boiled apple, salt implications, cinnamon and brown sugar, prunes, hints of dark chocolate and marzipan, apricots, coconut, tree resin, subtle Oak wood, carnation, wet rock, orange
    • Taste
Banana and peppery-spicy oak wood - the American components come out well in the further course, caramel, vanilla and a little coconut, cinnamon and clove, apricot and prune, boiled apple, orange and dark chocolate, sandalwood, slightly tart, almonds, forest honey, pineapple and some raisins
    • Finish
Medium length and warming, raisins, rather dry oak with the usual spices, bourbon tones, liquid honey accompanied from start to finish, grassy caramel, mocha notes, apricot and orange, vanilla, cotton candy, slightly bitter barley malt, leather and resin, hazelnuts

Not bad on the nose and on the palate but the finish is not completely pleasant due to the slightly sulphury notes
    • Nose
      83 83
Hints of honey, some exotic fruits, pineapple, peach, pear, littel citric, hints of vanilla, spices, whiffs of leather - quite nice
    • Taste
      85 85
Little punchy, subtle sweetness, some fruitiness, spices, peach hints of banana and custard, little woody notes
    • Finish
      79 79
Medium long, warm, spicy, zesty, but also more leathery, old shoes (little sulphur?)

  6. RJKrueger scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

A very successful bottling of Mr. Walker's Wood Finish experiments.
    • Nose
      86 86
Nice and fruity on the nose. Ripe pineapple, some banana, vanilla and almonds. Some herbal notes in the background.
    • Taste
      85 85
Neat start with a peppery sweetness. Here, too, some herbal notes and spicy oak.
    • Finish
      83 83
Medium-long finish that is spicy and sweet at first, then rather fresh towards the end.

  7. craide scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Delicious, easy-to-drink Madeira malt. Already going in the right direction I was looking for. The Madeira finish could have been a bit more pronounced.
    • Nose
      85 85
Fruity, soft start. Very pleasant nose. Ripe bananas, tangerines, some peach. There is also vanilla, shortbread biscuits,
Caramelized popcorn, with a little time fresh wood with honey penetrates through. A mint note brings a slight cooling.
    • Taste
      84 84
Oily and at the beginning also creamy on the palate. Then slightly tingling barrel seasoning with white pepper. Fruity and sweet like apples, bananas, peaches. Also here, slightly cooling like mint. In addition, honey sweetness and slight bitterness that ends in milk chocolate.
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium-long finish, becomes a little drier, it ends fruity and honey-sweet.

I can't think of anything else here, it is expected to be good, the price is okay.
    • Nose
      80 80
      Sweet, fruity, toffee,
    • Taste
      80 80
Intense, sweet, toffee remains, a little lemon tickles the palate, bitterness appears and becomes more and more present as dark chocolate.
    • Finish
      75 75
      Medium length and dry

Wood; Fruit; Chocolate nougat; some honey; a certain acidity.
    • Taste
      84 84
Young wood / sour; light (honey) sweetness; some fruit; again nougat chocolate.
    • Finish
      82 82
      Unspectacular; Woody acid.

Very sour bottling, which is otherwise quite unbalanced.

Water: no, it doesn't need it, shortbread gives way to a note of nougat, possibly also Turkish honey in the nose, but it becomes extremely thin in the mouth

Conclusion: the finish is very clear, but the first barrel was probably very weak. Overall disappointing, not particularly complex and a very short finish, not my cup of tea.

Dear Billy, just some sweet wine barrels doesn't make good whisky.
    • Nose
      84 84
fat sweetness with a little eucalyptus and pine needle oil, cooked fruits (peach, pineapple, sugared apple), shortbead and vanilla, very subtle cinnamon
    • Taste
      84 84
creamy mouthfeel, dark sweetness, demara sugar, some oak
    • Finish
      81 81
fairly short, boiled down fruit, caramel, dry oak spice on the back

The flavors evaporate very quickly, the overall impression is casual, monotonous and more on the dry side - 10.06.2020
    • Nose
      83 83
Light fruits, gooseberry, star fruit, wet spruce wood, slightly waxy, paraffin oil, sunflower seeds
    • Taste
      82 82
Cooling, very aromatic, hardly any sweetness, but astringent and oiliness in the interplay, very creamy and buttery, roasted aromas, some barrel flavor
    • Finish
      83 83
      Medium length

  21. Whiskybayer scored this whisky 86 points Expert Junior

After the 15th this is the best of the new series from Glenallachie. Nothing that is very good, but you can buy it and drink it in summer. After being very disappointed with the Rye, Marsala, PX and Port, this is a bright spot for the distillery.
    • Nose
      Honey, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg
    • Taste
Round on the tongue. Honey sweet and oranges, raisins. Cinnamon and cedar
    • Finish
Medium length with cedar, oranges, honey and milk chocolate

  22. LaddieNerd scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur
