From the beginning, the Ardbeg Ten has been very smoky. It is not a burned-out campfire with peat ash like the Caol Ila 12 or even a warming campfire like the Lagavulin 16, but a blazing, not yet extinguished campfire. Slightly warming, but already slightly ashy. This aromatic complex smoke is encased by slightly malty, sweet notes. In contrast to the Ardbeg Uigeadail, the Ardbeg Ten did not ripen in the sherry barrel, which is why no fruity tobacco notes can be detected. Instead, citrus fruits and a hint of vanilla in the smoke are integrated, which are complemented by maritime notes. With 2 drops of water, the smoke gets a little warmer, the aroma becomes sweeter overall.

There is a clear sweetness here, the character of which I can hardly determine. Together with citrus and pepper, the whisky is very full-bodied. The smoke, which is always present but feels somewhat back, gives the taste a certain complexity. After the palate is dominated by maritime notes and seaweed, espresso - carried by the oak - now comes to the fore.
    • Finish

The suggestive oak now comes into full effect and is reflected in an intense spiciness and bitterness. Shortly thereafter, the now insanely intense smoke dominates the entire mouth and complements the peppery notes perfectly. Another cloud of smoke comes from below a few seconds after the departure. In addition to maritime influences and spices, there is an intense smoke in the mouth and throat area for a while.
