Whisky Reviews for Ardbeg 1975 JY
5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 92.65 points
- http://kaypingers-whiskyblog.de/frontend/fullarticle.php?id=263 Color: gold Nose: charcoal, ash, lead, orange peel and smoky tanned leather (old saddlebags). Now the typical Ardbeg sweetness from a mix of limes, grapefruit lemon, honey and maritime salt. In short: yellow, fresh, slightly pungent and with a dull undertone. Taste: Creamy-fresh with salty lemon, peaty malt, vanilla, licorice, eucalyptus and a peppermint. Now green wood notes and herbs are added - something schaler. Finish: Long vanilla in peat dress. When the bitter-tart notes have faded from the taste, dry wood, leather and freshly packaged "coastal notes" remain on the tongue. 89 points (Nose: 91 / taste: 90 / finish: 87)
- [April, 2016] I had this dram during a private birthday tasting at Hamburg.
In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 92,5. I took no detailed notes.
- Ardbeg 25y 1975/2001, 58%, John Milroy's selection, sherry but - Islay - 94/100
One of the many beautiful whiskys I have tasted at the Lindores Whiskyfest. Only I do not know if that was on the 2007 or 2008 edition. Delicious and complex nose with sherry and peat, perfectly balanced. Little 'farmy'. Honey also and fruit (apples). Tobacco. Pleasant sweet, fruity taste on beautiful peat. Long finish with peat and fruit. Top bottling! http://onversneden.com/2009/01/29/klepper-ardbeg-25y-19752001-john-milroy/
25yo 1975/2001 (58%, John Milroy,
sherry butt) Colour:
gold. Nose: quite some sherry but
the whole isn’t overly expressive.
Quite some torrefaction, roasted nuts,
barbecued beef, coal… Then we
have lots of apples, light honey,
a little wax. Quite some pipe tobacco,
prunes, caramel… Gets a little
dusty but nicely so. Whiffs of seawater…
Most enjoyable. Mouth: very powerful,
sweet but not clumsy at all, very
spicy and peppery. Lots of cloves
and juniper, old white wine, bold
peat… Gets a little hot and
almost burning but the finish is long
and quite lively, on ripe fruits (strawberries),
peat and vanilla. Very good balance.
