It is a 12 year old whisky that has been matured in seasoned barrels. Highland Park sells countless of these bottlings - under its own name or under the label of independent bottlers. The barrels are industry standard, not exceptional. It was bottled with an increased alcohol content (therefore still over 64%!) In order to extract the optimum from the barrels in a few years of maturation.
The price that is called for this standard product at the age of 12 is outrageous. Because nobody can tell me that a special barrel selection is made for all the bottling for individual countries, airports, shops, bottlers, etc. Every usable barrel is simply being hawked at an inflated price because it is easy to do.
And that's exactly what sucks about Highland Park!
