Nose: The nose is still very much shaped by the raw brandy. Light fruit in the direction of green apple, unripe pear and a little fresh lemon zest, accompanied by grain and wet metal. Over time, the fruit fades into the background and delicate vanilla comes through. The alcohol can hardly be felt in the nose, which really surprises me at 61.2% vol. With hand warmth the nose becomes fuller and more intense, and now I discover what has been flickering in front of me all the time, but didn't want to get out: star fruit. Water is good for the nose and reinforces the aromas, especially the pear.

Taste: The 61.5% do not hide, but are also not unpleasant. Nevertheless, I dilute my 2cl with a teaspoon of water. Young, fresh, fruity. Again a lot of pear, some citrus and vanilla. A light peppery, mineral notes and some star fruit. Almost 1 to 1 like in the nose.

Finish: medium. The alcohol is still present, along with some lemon zest and white pepper.

Conclusion: A young savage who comes along fresh and fruity. The alcohol is still quite strong, but that does not detract from the enjoyment. I really like the mineral notes. That is definitely not a drawback for me. Another nice selection at a reasonable price.

Very strong spirit character. Not affected by a barrel here.

Very light and simple. The pear can be tasted absolutely out. For me, an association of grappa.

A successful change. But nothing more. I then lack a barrel influence.

Malty and slightly alcoholic, fresh nose, as fruit first green apples and pears, then there are some creamy aromas, vanilla can be guessed, light aroma, the fruits become more acidic.

Calm in the glass with water.

Hardly any change due to the addition of water.
    • Taste
      79 79
No influence of the barrel felt. Light grapes are dominant. Clear green pear. Without water, a strong start with a slight maltiness. A little floral notes can be felt without water.

With mouth, the mouthfeel becomes more oily and pleasant. But the bright grape and the fresh pear remain dominant. Accompanied by some creamy malt notes. A little white pepper can be sensed with benevolent.
    • Finish
      79 79
The pear remains absolutely dominant in the warming finish. Then becomes drier but the pear remains at least medium-long.

Nose: At the beginning there is a fruity yeast note, slightly sweet, but the alcoholic note does not correspond to the strength, but pear comes out stronger, trace of pepper, sometimes shortly before tipping into unripe, then again malt and becoming more acidic. A little water intensifies it in all aroma areas.
Taste: Initially sweet and oily, alcohol well integrated despite the starch, slight tingling, slight warmth, a little floral pear sweetness. The finish is medium to long and somewhat impetuous without water, yeast and fruity notes appear briefly, tart citrus aromas, and above all pleasantly peppery sharpness. A bit of wood in the aftertaste.

  4. The Barreliers did not rate this whisky Newbie

Aroma: Very malty with a dry fruitiness of yellow pears, red apples and citrus. Some vanilla cream.

Flavor: Oily. Sweet spices and ginger. Blood orange, grapefruit and other citrus fruits.

Finish: medium length. Dry and peppery with a little oak. Citrus again.
