I'm a huge fan of well matured single grain, but a bit skeptical to the younger ones. There is no given age to this sample from karloff, so I approached it open minded.

This was in all it's simplicity a very positive surprise.
Would I buy one at £15-20? No, I would buy two.
    • Nose

      Very gentle, even muted.
I'm not getting very much except sweet grain.
Something a bit richer lurks in the background. Some very nice smelling leather care/softener.
Not a dram you would nose between every sip, but what's there is good.
    • Taste
      81 81
Almost oily arrival, which is unusual for a 40%
It's light and gentle, crisp and sweet.
Maybe a little melon and yellow apple.
Midway a small and light burst of something like watered down Ouzo.
This will not blow anyone's socks off, I'm almost tempted to use the word I dread; smooth.
    • Finish
      78 78
I would say it's rather short, but it's also rather good.
No bitterness, no sticky sweetness, it just dies without making too much fuzz about itself.

This was in the book 101 whiskies to try before you die. The bloke said these bottles are rare so if you see one grab it. I saw one and grabbed it. For £20 I didn't expect it to pull up trees. It's on one of my optics and now and again I will pour myself a dram when I'm in the mood for a decent grain. It's a lot, lot better than that Haig Club shite.

Something rubber or a sealant like silicone.
Too me great aged grain doesn't have much of a nose so this hasn't a chance.
Pomegranate skin, brown leather, brown sugar and that is about it.
I didn't expect anything more, grain whisky is what it is and I'm not going to punish it to hard.
    • Taste
      80 80
The taste is always a different story and this is no exception.
Quite a sweet arrival, more of that brown sugar i think.
Honey and spice with some light fruit.
This makes it light and refreshing.
Basic but it does the job if you fancy a shot of something different.
    • Finish
      78 78
A short to medium finish and you can really taste the grain on the death which isn't a bad thing.

Cameron Brig Single Grain is a relatively light and

soft whisky so the oak flavors to their best advantage. The flavors are clear

hints of honey and spice up by putting in the palette.

  7. HunterRomario scored this whisky 75 points Expert Senior

Summary: Nothing miraculous or nothing wrong. It's potent, I rank it roughly at the level of certified, proven blends.
    • Nose
Whiskey makes the smell sweet, it's a bit easier, reminds me remotely of chocolate sherry style, and then in taste.
    • Taste
Grain whiskey, in contrast to single malt, generally has a lighter and finer profile, and it really sits. Chocolate, caramel, not very distinctive.

  8. Willie JJ scored this whisky 72 points Expert Senior

Unexciting, but very easy to drink.
    • Nose
Straightforward, simple, sweet sugar, vanilla, very lightly feinty with a hint of draff
    • Taste
Not too much going on. In fact the palate is just like sweet water.
    • Finish
All the action starts here. Sugars wrapping the tongue, hints of
vanilla, bit of woodspice towards the end. The finish is very long and
keeps sending new waves of increasing warmth across the tongue.
