Whisky Reviews for Jameson Irish Whiskey

67 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 72.17 points

  1. Slàinte Mhath scored this whisky 70 points Super Administrator

The most popular Irish whiskey in the world is a mass-produced, cheap and undemanding spirit that can be used for mixing purposes or sipped neat. On the nose, Jameson is rather featureless and lacking substance with an occasional alcoholic bite. Intense candy sweetness masks floral and grassy notes lingering in the background. A fresh and clean arrival is followed by sweet barley sugar, gingery spiciness and dry citrus fruits. The finish is short, simple and fades with hints of black tea bitterness. A sound Irish blend that is easy to drink over a conversation.

I'm not going to bother for a full tasting note. Smells and tastes like turpuntine and old school cleaning products blended together. Horrible stuff.

Bright apples and pears, slightly metallic, toffee emerges after it sits for a bit, all of which follows on the palate with a grain finish.

More of a mixer than a sipper, but I have the same problem with this one as I do with Jim Beam, that the whiskey's body has a booziness to it that even soda struggles to hide.

    - a simple, tasty, good Irish standard
    - light, one-dimensional but tasty
    - Classic pub party whiskey
    - well suited for the variants pure, with ice, or as a mixed drink
    • Nose
      soft, caramel, vanilla, delicate oak
    • Taste
a bit strong at the beginning, alcoholic top, citrus fruits, malty, subtle oak, noticeably young
    • Finish
      very short finish;
becoming dry, short malty, slightly alcoholic aftertaste

Smooth, a bit too soft on the after taste

Taste is gone quickly. Lacks a bit of depth, great whiskey nonetheless

Nose: Floral with a touch of copper pot aroma. Subtly fruity, mainly banana and apple coming through. Some rich sweetness of vanilla. Slightly oaky as well.

Palate: Pretty quiet actually despite having such an active nose. Very slight amounts of fruit blending with a decent amount of malty flavor. Some grassy notes and slight spice.

Finish: Brief. Malt strongest here and the oak from the nose comes back to say goodbye. A pleasant and crisp finish.

Overall Score: 80. I certainly won’t act like this is the first time I’ve ever had Jameson. It’s the most popular whiskey on the planet. And I think it holds that title for a good reason, it’s a damn good whiskey. No, it isn’t the greatest thing you’ll ever have in your life, but it’s complex enough to start a flavor/aroma debate, and it’s not offensive or overpowering in the way that some lower-priced whiskies are. I always have a bottle of Jameson at home. Never a bad choice, in my opinion.

Soft, good whiskey, but for gatherings, it is not interesting to parse, although it is a drink
