MACALLAN, a piece of history whisky!
let's see if he does his job!
    • Nose
sherry, sweet english, wadded, woody, spicy
    • Taste
the moistened wood that comes out with a little mold, varnish, cooked fruit, macerated, it's almost too simple, grass also strong enough to give more subtlety, the spices come back but very weak, then again the softness velvety
    • Finish
simple on the same aromas, almost flat in the end, but also tranquility of the taste buds especially at the deg level. alcoholic

A light, lively and very good malt - it looks younger than 18 years.
    Now very expensive!
    [Color gold;
    • Nose
      soft, fresh, fruity (ripe apples, pears, raspberries), some oak, very pleasant;
    • Taste
strong, fruity (light fruits), somewhat out of round, caramel, honey, spicy oak, tobacco; tastes younger than it is!
    • Finish
      medium length, fruity, dry oak, sweetness (marzipan);

    - a somewhat "disappointing" Macallan 18,
    - Of course still a high quality whisky but somehow I expected more with the name and age,
    - a bit better and fruity than the Macallan RUBY, but unfortunately I definitely don't see 9 in front,
    - Priced completely overpriced
    • Nose
soft but strong fruit notes, freshness, oak, sherry, many berries, strawberry !, vanilla, complex nose
    • Taste
strong, massive approach, lots of oak and spice, tastes younger than it is, dry sherry, the mixture of the two barrels (bourbon and sherry) can be clearly tasted
    • Finish
      spicy medium-long finish;
      medium-long fruity aftertaste

Sweet, overripe pineapple, pear, vanilla, a touch of oak. Madness!
    • Taste
      91 91
Light, creamy, sweet pineapple, alcohol can not be felt, is always sweet, light wood
    • Finish
      91 91
slight oak notes, light tannins like a light coffee, sweet pineapple remains, medium long,

very beautiful complex and deliciously curly nose, fruity elegant
    • Taste
      86 86
unbalanced - pulsating, lively but sometimes very angular and unexpectedly angular for his age and only 43%
    • Finish
      85 85

The ‘Fine Oak’ series denotes predominately bourbon cask use. For this 18yo Fine Oak, Macallan have deployed only 1st-fill casks.

N: After the 12yo Sherry Oak, this is deeper & richer with some fungal citrus and a more complex consolidation of all its parts.
T: Alrighty, there are some woody tannins but not as much as there might be from more resinous sherry casks in the mix, given the levels shown in the 12yo ‘Sherry oak’. Adding water brings out the waxy=oils, bitter beeswax, a fresh sour-sweet,…. Again, rather more challenging than expected.
F: Bitter notes leading to molasses, vanilla<aniseed. Good, long finish.
C: Not perfect in the middle, but still very good. It’s no beginners malt however, especially at £170.Scores a B[-]

Great. I'm thrilled when I ignore the price.
    • Nose
Many fruits. Pears, bananas, passion fruit, apple, pomegranate. A touch of sherry. Oak is there and gives the fruit salad its spice. No alcohol in the nose. The flavors alternate in their dominance. You can spend a lot of time tracking and discovering new nuances. Excite me.
    • Taste
Sweet, sweet, full, fruity. The whole fruits appear on the palate, but the spice binds them together tightly. The spice, which reminds of pipe tobacco on the palate, dominates. The oak can not hold back here. She does not bother. It allows all the other flavors without getting into the background. The Nachschmecken is characterized by sweet tobacco.
    • Finish
Medium to long. Something warm, wonderfully spicy and fruity.

Still a nice nose, but the rest...
    • Nose
      87 87
Very fragrant, with orchard fruits and dusty oak. Tangerines and charcoal, a hint of umami "meatiness" (bone broth?). Salty liquorice, fennel, pear pulp, marzipan, milk chocolate. All nicely balanced, but not exactly memorable, and of course it has little in common with the heavily-sherried Macs of yore. But if you disregard your preconceptions, you can't dismiss this outright. It's still top-notch, complex-yet-soft 43% whisky.
    • Taste
      83 83
Loses steam dramtically in the mouth. Almost interchangeable, this could be pretty much any softly sherried, cocoa-and-tannin-rich and vaguely fruity Speysider. Speaking of, I've had more fun with the good old Cardhu 18 at a fraction of the cost.
    • Finish
      81 81
Crème brûlée, orange cakes and bitter espresso. Noticeably tannic and very quotidian.

    Note dated November 2, 2011
    Nose: light, sherry fruit, vanilla
Mouth: intense, sherry aromas without dryness, caramel
Finish: long, fades away on the fruit, very pleasant
Conclusion: intense, but very pleasing, no rough edges, balanced, boring boring, PLV sporty anyway

Macallen is a name in the field of whisky.
In my opinion very good bottlings, but partly overpriced.
    Light golden color.
    43% Vol.Alc.
    • Nose
      84 84
Very pleasant are the clementines and the fruity freshness like almost overripe apple, which immediately reminds me a little of the Advendzeit.
Added to that is the draft of the barrel, perhaps even Spekulatzius, with a subtle Cocosanrome, and a bit of sharpness comes in the nut.
    • Taste
      82 82
very soft, almost smoothy, the whisky extremely promotes the Specheilfluss, and a little sharpness is still on the tongue and holds.
The fruitiness, slightly musty touch of nosing is unfortunately not to taste.
In the mouth it is a little creamy and very pleasant, almost too round.
    • Finish
      84 84
now, on departure, the fruit / citrus notes come again.
But rather orange with a lot of sweetness.
Also, a warming effect is on the palate wide with a distinct licorice.
The fruit stays on the gum for a long time and is absolutely pleasant, just smoothy.
