    Conclusion after a blind tasting:
Looks vaguely familiar and reminds me a little bit of old Tobermory's 10y. Well, bourbon casks anyway, I would think. I like it, has something classic and Scottish about it. Old Pulteney 12 maybe?
    • Nose
      82 82
Rose water, green tea, white pepper, wet leaves.
    • Taste
      85 85
Congruent with the nose: tea, citrus fruit in the direction of lime or pink grapefruit, slightly maritime. Rather drinking strength.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium-length dry finish with some spiciness, maybe chili.

A good topic for a drink, a solid finishing batch!

  3. Kraddell scored this whisky 78 points Expert Junior

Pours clear, pale, brilliant gold. Scent is robust. raw wood, higher ABV shows, a sweet wine is to be recognized, but I couldn't be able to call out moscattel when tasted blindly. Taste is smooth, full, oaky, lots of barrel profile, both wood and sherry. Superb balance. ABV works really well. Lovely !

This came very close to cracking the 90s for me. Extremely fruity, elegant, summer whisky. Apricots, banana, white wine, green grapes, oak, black pepper, grapefruit, ginger perhaps. Very nice sweet/sour interplay. No off notes, just pure joy. Highly recommended!

Ok for a finishing experiment, but the regular 12 is at least as much to my liking and considerably cheaper.
    • Nose
      84 84
Smells 'modern', the wine influence is pretty obvious and even a little overdone. Stewed apples and pears, some sweet lemon/lime, slightly sour and musty wine notes, warm honey, fruit cake, the spices are up front, mainly clove, nutmeg and some ginger. It's nice enough, but lacks subtlety.
    • Taste
      83 83
Sweet and somewhat sour, warm stewed orchard fruits, the citrus is more bitter now tending towards grapefruit, very much honied, the spiciness is still clove driven, but eventually becomes dry on black pepper with some sour tannins.
    • Finish
      80 80
Medium length: initially sweet, but quickly turning into something reminding of a sourish and dry white wine, warming on wood spices.

Yellow fruits such as apricots, yellow apples and pears, a slightly sour note in the background, vanilla and bread spices, malt and a little menthol

Soft and mild at the beginning, fruity (mango & apricot), then increasingly hot with black pepper and stronger oak spice, coconut and at the end grapefruit

Bittersweet! Medium length, quite dry at the end

  18. Astrid scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

The Moscatel influence is mostly subtle, but the wood screams for attention. A non-round oddity.
    • Nose
      80 80

Tasty and sweet smelling but tastes rather hot. One of the more striking from the Wood Finish series.
    • Nose
      84 84
Sweet and sweet, some cinnamon, yellow fruits (apricot and co.).
    • Taste
      81 81
Spicy, medium pepper spiciness, a little sweetness but not as you would expect from a Muscatel barrel, little grape flavor.
    • Finish
      81 81
Astringent, runs very dry, subdued finish.

  23. RJKrueger scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

For my taste there are much better specimens in the Glenallachie portfolio for the same price.
    • Nose
      84 84
Fermented fruits, sour wine notes, somewhat musty forest floor, after a while citrus and vanilla.
    • Taste
      83 83
Spicy start, meaty, then comes sweetness and blackcurrants, then it tips into woody.
    • Finish
      81 81
      Bitter finish with some oak.

    • Nose
Light fruits, soft, sweet, herbs, spicy, slightly nutty, honey, some pineapple
    • Taste
light fruits, spicy, somewhat sweet, slightly nutty and malty. Later getting a bit bitter and dry
    • Finish

This 11y old Glenallachie is part of a late Saturday afternoon tasting (with myself) with some various Glenllachie expressions.

This is for sure not the best. Whisky and wine finishes; to me often a hit or a miss. This is the letter. Sweet Moscatel flavors in combination with spicy flavors. The nose is ok, but the taste is simply not my thing.

But their are some more interesting Glenallachie drams in the lineup. Next, I would say.

The nose is very weak and not round, on the palate fruity and mild. Due to the relatively short finish but also very pleasing - 10.06.2020
    • Nose
      79 79
The sweet wine aroma is there, malt in the background, fig cheese, grape, orange, forest honey
    • Taste
      85 85
It starts off very spicy, a little malt sweetness, fruit tea, berry juice, apricot, ginger spiciness, sticky, sticky, slightly nutty, nutmeg, some coffee
    • Finish
      82 82
      Short

  40. blackmind1975 scored this whisky 81 points Member Senior

Personally, I expected more from the Moscatel. It's not bad, but I wouldn't buy it again.
    • Nose
      80 80
biting alcohol immediately rises in the nose, which also covers some of the aroma, what you can still perceive are fruits that cannot be described in more detail.
    • Taste
      83 83
Here again the sharp taste of the alcohol in the foreground. After a little "chewing" aromas of dark fruits, dark berries (?), Traces of peach and subtle notes of cinnamon are added, traces of oak are noticeable
    • Finish
      81 81
Peppery spiciness slowly degrades and the oak becomes a little stronger, but changes relatively quickly into bitter chocolate and a hint of coffee

A deliciously fruity and honey-sweet single malt from the latest Wood Finish series by GlenAllachie. After final maturation in Moscatel casks, the distillery character is enhanced by the characteristic notes of the Muscat grape, thus providing a balanced, fruity, fresh summer dram with optimum drinking strenth.

I thank Kirsch Import e.K. for the complimentary sample.

    • Nose
Fruity aromas immediately rise to the nose, such as grape, peach, apricot and pineapple. Really intoxicating. Honey and white chocolate notes are added, accompanied by floral tones.
    • Taste
Sweet, fruity and creamy on the palate with peaches and oranges, a touch of grapefruit, warming spices and cinnamon. Dark chocolate and mocha nicely linger towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish is long lasting with creamy honey. Becomes increasingly chocolaty with distinct mocha notes.

With water: Much more fruity on the nose after adding some water. Peach, apricot, passion fruit and more citric aromas. Sweet and creamy on the palate with a little less fruit. Slightly warming with cinnamon and creamy chocolate. The finish is medium long with lots of dark chocolate, cocoa and a touch of espresso.

This is like tropical juice on steroids. I really like how the Moscatel barrel added a huge fruity layer with fresh peach, dried apricot and fresh pineapple that just keeps on going. No, this is not overly complex but very very tasty and steady from nose to taste to finish. Solid GlenAllachie!

  46. thijs100 scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Some nectarine, tinned pineapple and coconut water with a whiff of honey, but also sweet pastries and warming spices. Just a whisper of grapefruit.
    • Taste
Barely noticeable on the nose, the grapefruit shines on the palate. There's lemon zest, honey and an assortment of spices as well.
    • Finish
Soft spices and bright fruits with a touch of brown sugar.
