Whisky Reviews for Glenallachie 2006

Got this Glenallachie with a Glenfarclas Family Cask nr. 3773 2002/2018 winter compared. Wanted to compare firstfill Oloroso with firstfill PX. So the Glenfarclas is already dark, but the Glenallachie is really like Coke. The darkest whisky I've ever had in a glass. What is special about this Glenallachie, because pure firstfill PX ripening is very rare in my research. Since this whisky is exactly my prey scheme and I love sweet whiskys, I was really looking forward to this bottling. Billy Walker has certainly done a good job here. I admit to being biased here in this case.
    • Nose
Pure it is very closed compared to Glenfarclas, I have diluted it to about 50% alcohol. Now he opens something, but not as fruity as the Glenfarclas. For this extremely creamy spicy sweet, pipe tobacco, chocolate cake, very fine oak flavor, dark dried fruits, a little sweet incense, cedar wood and sandalwood. I find very tasty nose on the same qualitative level as the Glenfarclas.
    • Taste
Syrup, very oily, creamy, marzipan, sugar cane molasses. Pipe tobacco again: wonderful mouthfeel, pleasant oak spice paired with wonderful forest honey sweetness. Orange chocolate cake. Absolutely brilliantly charged heavy whisky.
    • Finish
Medium to long finish, not becoming dry or bitter. Remains pleasantly sweet, oak remains. For me just as tasty as the Glenfarclas, just different. PX just, I find sweeter, darker, heavier and more oily. An excellent and very rare because of the very dark PX filling!

As a lover of sherry-heavy whiskys, I may be a bit biased, but that's extremely cool stuff! I have not let such a delicious pampe slide between my teeth or over my tongue for a long time. Wonderful!

At the beginning the usual Pattex session, dry sticky. At first you don't think "Hm, yummy", but "dude, what is that? Did a ripe plum throw it in the wood glue ?!" With the experience of a whisky drinker, you leave him standing and put a smell hole a little later in the bulbous tasting glass. Then it comes .... already heavier, more berry and more complex!

For my tongue with the highest of feelings. At first you think you were sitting in the barrel and got stuck on the barrel wall with your taste cloth. You also taste ashes and fire, heavily sweetened and extremely heavy. Fantastic in the second sip, you get used to it and your tongue is covered by a kind of film. Very creamy it leaves and lets you stand with a moment of happiness from blackberry nuts, wood and barrel character. You praise yourself that despite the price, you struck for a 13-year-old!

The gelatinous coating still wobbles over your tongue and is only removed through your saliva over time. Barrel wall and sherry compote with fruits still wobble in your warm mouth. Magnificently integrated alcohol feels mild, but now also dry and intensely ashy. The barrel has certainly enjoyed an alligator char and you will notice that too. You smile at the person opposite you, unless you are too lonely to enjoy it alone, and you are happy to have tasted this wonderful Glenallachie with him!

This Glenallachie is very cask-driven. It is sweet and it shows nice sherry flavours but there is almost no oak detectable. I know it is quite young but from a single cask I would have expected more...

Very tasty GlenAllachie that actually just lacks a bit of complexity. But for Süßguschn it is just right.

Intense raisins, liquid chocolate, cocoa grounds, wet wood, musty warehouse smell, sweet plums, slightly ashy roasted aromas
    • Taste

Sweet, spicy, strong start, plums and raisins dominate again, creamy and at the same time slightly dry, chocolatey, strong alcohol
    • Finish

Nice balance of sweetness and spice, creamy, chocolatey, lots of plums and raisins, endless tannins with a long finish

    Eye:
    Mahogany, high viscosity

    Nose:
Strawberries, honey, sweet, powdered sugar, some solvent, fresh wood, milk chocolate, nut ice cream, pepper, Nutella, orange, mint, vanilla, the high alcohol content is not an issue, stimulating

    Mouth:
    even when diluted to 48% vol. strong, pungent alcohol perceptible / noticeable, intense barrel wood, chocolate, becoming bitter, orange zest, first sweet then dry;
undiluted with a brutal start, oily, long in the mouth, late young wood, grape seeds, chocolate cake with “shot”, nutmeg, cinnamon, raisins, much tastier than the diluted version

    Conclusion / points:
The malt is extremely pressing. Almost uncomfortable until you are "inside". Over time, the malt becomes really tasty and you like to sip it several times. Just as the taste buds adapt within a dram, the Glenallachie will probably harmonize with a little air contact over the next few weeks / months, even if only briefly, but at least, and lose some of its impetuousness. The rest of the wild can be softened with a touch of water. However, too much water makes the whisky cumbersome. I bet that in about half a year there will be an increase in points from me.

The nose is deep and round sherry. Raisins. The taste and finish is in no way inferior. A pleasure.
