Whisky Reviews for Very Old Blended Whisky BW

A gentleman! You can feel the influence of the old whiskey, very round, very well set, nothing catches the eye / the palate, the aromas develop slowly and calmly. I understand when some may find it boring (but I am not). The artificial impressions that I often find in blends / grains do not exist here at all!

I make deductions on the finish and because I consistently lack a certain acidity in the aromas. This would have been good because the sweetness is almost overwhelming in places.

I imagine such an aged whiskey from the "good old days" (which was before mine). Big cinema!

At the beginning a lot of bright exotic fruits - papaya, mango, pineapple - almost in the direction of light dried fruit, then cut flowers and damp grass as well as vanilla, which is becoming increasingly dominant, with honey, a little cinnamon and beeswax and a woody-scented bitter note
    • Taste
      90 90
Spicy, but not spicy, and a very pleasant, elegantly balanced sweet-tart aroma world: vanilla, cardamom, macadamia nuts, a hint of cinnamon and cloves, little fruit. Nice oily texture

Long, sweet, warming, vanilla dominates here as well, with light fruit and wood notes

It delivers what it promises ... to enjoy a dram with the smell of the old days.
You only have to cut back on complexity.
It is not an explosion of flavors, rather a reserved character, very harmonious and simply delicious.
    • Nose
      90 90
Light fruit notes, malt, cereals, honey, sawmill, freshly cut wood, slightly grassy, bread dough, beeswax
    • Taste
      91 91
Creamy, spicy, mouth filling, sweet, very harmonious
    • Finish
      89 89
      Long, very slight bitterness

  3. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

It is simply very good to drink, in any case a whiskey that tends to play quieter tones, but these are very harmonious and melodious
    • Nose
A good start with a basket with overripe fruits, mandarins, a little wax, a touch of furniture polish, but very discreet and definitely behind the fruits, very creamy, oak, there is always a very exotic feeling with the fruits, also a sweet basic tone a bit of marzipan, light Christmas stollen associations
    • Taste
Oily, also very fruity, slightly acidic, yes again mandarins, which bring a little sweetness, also nectarines, with the skin, therefore a bit tart, so I also think briefly of grapefruit, a little oak, with a second sip also dark chocolate in Middle part and slightly nutty, the chocolate covers the entire mouth, it gets better if you give it the necessary space in the mouth, very nice
    • Finish
as if you were drinking the remaining liquid from a fruit salad, totally soft, slightly sweet and very fruity, pleasant and set

Nice grapes, light fruit, hay, light herbs, nice soft and oily, some pepper, more and more barrel, nice old bottle finish, long dry, barrel seasoning

Very great nose with a subtle note of dried fruit. The taste has some cereals, whole grain toast and creamy vanilla. The exit is unfortunately very short to nonexistent.

Overall, a good blend, but it does not belong to the upper class.
The price of around € 250 is of course a bad joke. There are definitely better ones in the price segment.

    • Nose
Very soft, balanced sweetness. This dram needs time to open up.
But then there is a very tasty glue note that I really like. Exotic fruits, really nice, subtle width, not overloaded, oranges, roses, reminiscent of a very old grain. Insanely good, because something completely different - most likely a mixture of Springbank, Kavalan and Bowmore.
    • Taste
Mild, but very intense, slight bitterness, then a crazy breadth that is different in the overall taste. Many beautiful aromas of fruit, nuts, oily sweetness, alcohol perfectly integrated.
    • Finish
Exciting dram that shows quality and which is completely different at times.
